Glad you had a good hol LMD, but sorry that you are feeling so down - have you thought about talking to your GP?

I've always had counselling via the NHS and I've had a couple of amazing therapists (in Shropshire, so if you are anywhere near I'll let you know the good ones haha) so might not involve dipping into your savings?

I might try the docs and see if they can refer me, I'm concerned there could be a long waiting list/referral period. Nowhere near Shropshire I'm afraid so I'll have to scout out myself!

    I'll keep you posted

Contact one of your local charities, like Mind or something. All our NHS stuff in Sunderland is self referral, and linked with Mind. There is a bit of a waiting list but it's not massively long.
  • Hello everyone

I know it's been a long time since I have updated but I've not been in a very good place. I have registered for counselling through my local GP and I'm awaiting an assessment appointment. Fingers crossed its soon.

Financially I have been very frugal and if I continue to do so I should be debt free 3 months sooner than I originally calculated. :T However, from my sig you can see my EF is practically nothing so there's no fallback if anything goes wrong other than credit cards. I'm thinking car repairs, vets bills, kaput washer / fridge etc. Emergency stuff (not shopping sprees :) )

Therefore I'm not re-assigning my target debt free day just yet, I want to see if I can live this frugally for a bit longer first.

I've been PADding as always, every little bit helps!

Having looked at finances and what we want to do in the house this year we have also agreed that we are only having one holiday this year (abroad that is) I know it's the right thing to do but we have so little sunshine here in the UK I worry about my vitamin d levels! Better pick up some supplements on my next shop haha!

I hope everyone else is ok, I need to have some time to catch up on other diaries, life has been so mental these days both in work and at home (paperwork for dad) I've not had much time to myself.

Hopefully this will ease over the next few weeks and I'll be back on track.

Better go, I'll be late for work!

  • Hello everyone!

I know it's been many moons since I posted an update but life has been either manic-busy or manic-depressing... There seems to have been no in between for a while.

However, I have a new job now and have a little pay increase and I am feeling far less stressed than I used to be.

I still get stressed, and I miss mum terribly but I know she would be proud of the choices I'm making both on the job front and at home. Sometimes I lack the gusto to even make dinner on an evening but then she'll give me a mental kick up the backside and I'll crack on.

On the MSE front I am still padding daily, top cashback gave me an increased PAD yesterday which was nice. Quidco seem to be very slow in comparison and I have over £50 sitting with them... Tsk!

I've sorted the car insurance and managed to get a really good deal, TCB for that too gives me another £50, winner :)

You see? I'm trying to stay positive peeps!

I am still on track to be debt free before I'm 40, and as I'm still saving some money each month hopefully I'll have a good chunk of savings at that point too. I'd like to think we can be mortgage free by 45 but that's a bigger sum to tackle haha!

    Gotta dash

  • Hi all

Happy Tuesday, although I don't even mind Monday's in my new job so there's something to be said for the move I made :). Maybe we will have to see how long that feeling lasts :rotfl:

A work bonus gave me a very big PAD, I PADded with slight trepidation as once it's paid, it's gone! Perhaps I could have placed it in an emergency fund but there's so little interest to be made on savings I figured debt-busting was the way to go:)

Still PADding the small ones too, even pennies count!

Been quite frugal this month, new job helps as very little time or opportunity for snacking (save £'s lose lbs?)! I therefore find myself one week from pay day with £300 in the bank. I have a £20 DD to come out and a food shop at the weekend but it will be great to see what my balance will be this time next week and I can PAD it :D

Maybe I have just put a jinx on myself and something will go wrong or need paying for!

Fingers crossed the week goes without a hitch

    LMD xx

    Hello all

Clearly I was being frugal this month as I have lots planned at the end of it, not only are we out this weekend but also I had completely forgotten about a function I am attending tomorrow night Argh!

I also fear I will need to get some diesel before pay day too.

It will be nice to get to pay day, it feels like ages since we were paid and when I've checked my tracker that's because we were paid early due to the Easter bank holidays.

I still have £800 in my savings account in case of emergencies (plus the other emergency funds in my signature) so all should be OK.

Work is busy and keeping my mind occupied, I am as happy as I feel I can be at the moment. I'm making a good headway into my debts (oh how I wish I didn't have them...) each month and aim to pay off another £1000 ish come pay day. The sooner I can get it gone the better, that's why I love PADding so much as I don't really notice the extra going out.

Oh well, at least I have been PADding larger amounts when I have been rounding the old bank balance down. This morning I was going to send just 11p to savings but decided to send £5.11 to the old credit card instead. :)

I realise that I am really fortunate in that I can afford to overpay so much on my cards, at 0% the minimum payments for them all is just over £200 a month. If I wasn't such a disciplined person (can I say that when I racked it all up in the first place?!?) I could quite easily fritter away the £800 on other things. Why is it so easy to spend money?

The other thing that I'm grateful for is that I always have some to send to savings each month too. Now, I don't really spend much money on myself, the odd breakfast butty perhaps and I go away with my sister about 4 times a year (cheapo deals mind). Whenever I do spend anything, hubby seems to notice and make a comment about it. We don't have a joint account and because I earn a bit more than he does he is always talking about my 'spare cash'! I am starting to get a bit resentful because he spends more on himself than I do, holidays come out of my savings account and I pay more than half of the bills (in relation to earnings)

Does anyone else have this situation? Maybe he caught me at a bad moment the last time he said it... I'm not saying he's not on board for clearing the debt because he certainly does keep his cards/loan in mind but he never seems to have the spare cash to overpay.

I guess I do it the right way by overpaying just after pay day so that I've always got 'just a little bit' of spare cash. I keep everything on my spreadsheet and it gives me my daily budget so I always know what I've allocated myself.

Oh God I'm rambling on, I guess I am just trying to justify (to myself mainly) that I am on top of things! And more to the point that my plan is achievable. **knock on wood**:D

Here's to the FINAL22 months of LMD debtbusting!

It's hard to say whether he did just catch you at a bad time or if he is genuinely feeling that way. Maybe worth tackling him over a cuppa?

You are doing so well LMD. Keep going you will get there.

  • Hi Bobarella,

I think perhaps I am too easy-going and I don't judge what he spends his money on, as long as he keeps on top of his debts.

That's why I get irked by the comments every now and again.

    Thanks for reading xx
