I do have similar plan to save up some money for a house deposit but apparently the house price is sky high. It is going to really drain out all my saving to save, say, 5%(max) of a cheap studio flat.
I had a post about investing as student sometime ago. Reason being that I doubt I can BUY a house within 5 years of my first career. I may as well put the money to work hard for me from other channels (e.g. stock, investment trust, mutual fund, saving & bond.
I however don't have any immediate plans to get a car or other luxury:P London is too convenient with public transport and a pain for car drivers:P0 -

ooh that's interesting...i'd like to know a good way to invest my money too... have you already tried investing in those ways? and hehe i don't have a car either, but i don't need one because there's nowhere to park at uni really anyway :rolleyes:0 -
The one thing I will admit to is loving my little car! The only luxury I really allow myself at uni is parking, since I figure if I already have a car and am paying for insurance/tax and putting petrol in it anyway I might as well spend that couple of pounds a day for parking (when I am in after 10am it's free too).
I do buy cheap/own brand ink and stationary and try as hard as possible to get second hand books.

What number am I?
About after uni. Well I hopefully finish next year and hope to work for a few months before going off to Australia for a year. After that, I have no idea!!Student MoneySaving Club member 017!0 -
Debt is crazy now with these tution fee's!!... £3000 Tution Fee a year and student loan of £4000 a year!.. Killing a man.
No plans for when im finished either, just basically get my degree(consider a masters) then work for a while to get money for car and deposit for a house.Student MoneySaving Club Member 16!

Hi I want to join this club!
I won't have much to live on when I start uni. My dad will send me £20 per week and I hope to get a job. Anyone got tips on getting a part time job fast? At my previous uni there were jobs advertised at the student union but these were always full time permanent jobs. :S Not suitable for students at all!
:starmod:Student MoneySaving Club member 019!:staradminNo longer a student and very poor, but still loves to save.:dance:0 -
Actually £20 will be plenty if you budget well, and you can't exactly blow it unlike if your dad were to give you hundreds of pounds at once to last the whole term.
Why don't you check out DFW as they have a £10 a week "unnecessary challenge" to discourage spending on junk basically.
I'll probably have a fiver in my purse for a week and I'll make that last, so it can be done!
Welcome all the new comers! I am still resisting the end of summer and discussing with my friends the possible advantages of running away to join the circus rather than writing a dissertation.
