Hi I want to join this club!
I won't have much to live on when I start uni. My dad will send me £20 per week and I hope to get a job. Anyone got tips on getting a part time job fast? At my previous uni there were jobs advertised at the student union but these were always full time permanent jobs. :S Not suitable for students at all!
hello very pooryour member number is 19 - welcome to the club!
i agree with somethingaboutshopping - think it is better to be sent a smaller amount each week so that you budget it and think about what you buy. this year i found it quite easy to spend more than i should've cuz my bank account had quite a bit in it (at the beginning of the term when the loan goes in, of course
) as for jobs, my union has a joblink, which does advertise some part time ones sometimes too, but perhaps you union can provide you some help with job hunting - i think mine helps you and gives you cv advice and stuff
maybe you could send your cv off early and apply to some shops or something too?
alsooo have you seen boots are advertising in store of xmas employees already? i heard marks and spencers also start looking for xmas employees in sept, maybe beginning of sept or even now! so it might be worth my fellow student moneysavers who want a job at xmas to get going now  hope this helps!0 -

Why don't you check out DFW as they have a £10 a week "unnecessary challenge" to discourage spending on junk basically.
I'll probably have a fiver in my purse for a week and I'll make that last, so it can be done!
Welcome all the new comers! I am still resisting the end of summer and discussing with my friends the possible advantages of running away to join the circus rather than writing a dissertation.
xx
Yes i'm dreading the D word too agh!Student MoneySaving Club member 017!0 -
Tip i'm sure you've all heard before: Always go shopping on a full stomach, which will help you adding unecessary junk to your trolley!Student MoneySaving Club member 017!0

Hi thanks for letting me join and the advice.
Applying for work before I arrive is a great idea, and it'll decrease competition for when I get there.:starmod:Student MoneySaving Club member 019!:staradminNo longer a student and very poor, but still loves to save.:dance:0 -
hehe course i'll let u join
it's not a strict thing anyway, just nice to get talking bout the moneysaving issues
hehe i wish i could follow my own advice though - i've been telling myself to send my cv off to some places for ages now - oooops!0 -
I meant to send my CV off to places... Real work got in the way tho! Got a stack of CV's with cover letters printed and sealed in envelopes all ready to go... Just getting round to it! Might end up doing it when I get there - I'm moving in in just a couple of weeks, and will have a few days spare before I have to register, so can kill two birds with one stone, and get to know the area *and* deliver CV's at the same time
Got my loan assesment over the weekend! Woo! I can afford to live *and* eat! Go me!**"Cheer up, it could get worse" - I cheered up, and look, it got worse!**0 -

i got my award notification today- says loans day is 3rd sepember:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0

woo hoo!
and i'm just typing up my cover letter now... i always think i sound stupid on these letters, like normally on a computer i'm more conversational and in a cover letter i have to be all properhehe
hey guys, i was wondering... should we have little challenges on here? maybe not specifically saving up ones, because i know someone wasn't too keen on that, but maybe "this week try and spend less on food" or whatever, i don't knowi'm sure someone has a good idea we could do

Yes a few people have said that. I just don't know how to go about starting researching it! I'm thinking of getting a couple of books on dissertations from the library to see what they say. Do you think they would help much?Student MoneySaving Club member 017!0
