hey everyone. it's a bit late but can i join? i'm starting my second year properly on monday, just had inductions this week. i am terrible with money! i know lots of good tips from lurking on the site but am just. impulsive. especially food shopping. clothes shopping. using expensive transport when i should be walking. etc.

    help!

    thanks. katy xxxx
  • Thought I'd put a quick suggestion in. Psychology experiments have already been mentioned but here at RHUL, the economics department do regular experiments which they pay you take part in. The difference is they pay on "performance" so there is an incentive to actually take an interest in what is going on rather than just answering with any old rubbish. Not sure if many other unis have big experimental economics units but thought it might be of use :)
    This is getting addictive! :D:eek:

Oh I can understand you not having fun :rotfl:. Have you ever watched the sunrise whilst frantically sewing a corset?

Lol, not yet but i have watched many a sunrise whilst trying to get presentation boards done usually the morning of my presentation :rotfl:

and about the being tired thing, i have a break, get some fresh air or have a huge cup of coffee if i really need to get the work done. Classical music helps rather than say hardcore or something for me in this state as my body/mind is going with the relaxation rather than fighting against it and I can still work. works for me anyway

  • Its been a quiet week all round I think! Haven't been hugely busy at uni, but completely shattered! Must have the most boring group of first years ever - none of us ever manage to spend a whole weekend out doing the whole student/drinking thing lol.

Had my elbow operated on this week tho! Hopefully should be able to get away without it going into plaster now, should just be a case of physio to keep it mobile and not over doing it until it heals fully. Just need to break the news to my tutor about the not over doing it... Hmm... To be fair, he doesn't even know I've been into the hospital yet, got a phonecall on Friday morning telling me that there had been a cancellation for clinic for that day, so they could bring my appointment forward, and then the consultant booked me in for surgery yesterday! At least its all pretty much sorted now. Hopefully be fully mobile again in the next month or so :)

Money saving wise... I think I'm doing ok. Spending around £20 a week on food shopping... Taking lunch in with me, but still wasting money on cans of coke and other sugary rubbish... I admit, I still bought the craft magazines this month... But I'm using them for research, honest!

And I'm currently looking at buying a digital radio... Bad me... ;)

  • I find I spend a fortune if I don't take a packed lunch... like I go crazy and whereas a packed lunch has a sandwich and a cereal bar in it, if I buy lunch I get like a proper 3 course meal... mental, just can't seem to control the bad little fairy on my shoulder at the minute.
I got food in my belly and a license for my telly
And nothing's going to bring me down
