I am not looking for excitement when I make contactless payments. My regular monthly spend with Waitrose has been well over £200 for years, and I usually spend well over the contactless limit in one go. So buying vouchers is ideal for me as I can then put the TSB debit cards back into the safe for a month, and I don't have to keep records of umpteen small purchases.

If only Tesco did contactless - I'd be doing the exact same thing. £100 exact spend done and dusted in the first week of the month, and use the vouchers against my online shop. Fab idea.

Like I did last month, I bought 8 x £25 vouchers at Waitrose today, to make £100 on each card. All paid for with my two contactless cards that I had not used since I bought last month's vouchers. No problems at all.

Interesting. If the total spend is less than £25 and you offer the £25 voucher will Waitrose give cash change and if so is there a maximum amount of change they will allow?

They reduce the amount available on your card. No cash offered.

That's a full calendar month; I only got the card part way through September. Plus the fact that I shall want to stop using the card in Oct as soon as I know I've spent £100, as I have other cashback cards to utilise.

    Snap! Same here.

The 3 x 5% TSB deal only came out recently, so hardly surprising.

Surfeit of 5% off deals, as the Santander 123 has just come out with a one off 5% off Retailer Offer, expiring 25th October, for Waitrose, which is not limited to Contactless. I'm going away, so only three weeks in October, and two weeks in November.

It's looking like I will have to divert all my Costco spend to Waitrose, to have any chance of using the £100 up in October.

Long term, I need to get a job in central London, so I can use the TSB card for transport. Talk about cart in front of the horse. Just kidding.
  • Places I've found that accept contactless,Co-Op,Superdrug,Iceland,M&S,Costa,Starbucks ( Costa much better coffee but was desperate and running for train!! ).....
Places not contactless...Next ( surprisingly )...Asda ( asked in store why, couldn't give a reason )

So my question is Why don't all stores have a contactless facility ?

retailer offers are personalised offers, not available to everyone. My current ones are Body Shop and Hertz (none of which are of interest to me).

I don't know what the Costco prices are like - but would you end up paying more in your quest to chase the £5 cashback?

    Different reasons, which could include
    • average customer spend is greater than contactless limit (which was just £20 until a couple of weeks ago)
    • company doesn't sell anything that costs less than contactless limit
    • company does not want to invest in the technology (they might have to replace all their card readers)
    • company is stuck in the dark ages
  • Has anyone found if Sainsburys take contactless ?

I'm yet to find one near me that takes contactless, it might be regional though?
I'm in Scotland if that helps.
