Wow, it was so easy to get all that really useful and convenient information! You didn't need the forum at all in the end!

I have been thinking more about the baby's father and what rights he will want. I think that is why she likes it here. She feels unlikely he will find out where she is. I think she may also be keen to keep her presence here hidden from him. Hopefully, I can keep myself covered legally etc, without letting him trace her here.
Firstly, there is no ''trafficking'', ''controlling'' ''abuse'' or anything else like that. People have gone way off topic with that.

The ex-boyfriend has a new girlfriend. Isn't really interested in my guest or their baby. He will certainly not be tracking her down and stalking her etc. It sounds more like she will need to chase him for money (if he has any).

    Why has her story changed?

I was trying to find out about the rules and regs etc. (eg insurance, single parent as lodger status etc). I wasn't expecting all this business about nationality, age difference, beating accusations and ''mind control'' etc, etc to come up.

Anyway, it has proved useful. It's made me think about how I want to be spending my time / lifestyle from now on. I'm seriously considering selling the house and not carrying out the major renovations.

Also, the topic of being evicted from your own house by the police has reminded me of someone who rented a house with his new girlfriend - even though he had the money to buy instead...

We all better get accustomed to this situation. The way EU is taking illegal immigrants, soon there would be legislation that you must house 1-2 migrants in your house (especially if council thinks you have spare room).
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

She was reluctant to speak about him and / or contact him.
I misinterpreted the reason for this. Mainly due to the fact that I hadn't actually spoken to her that much about it.

    Thanks

Unfortunately as an EU citizen she only has the right to reside in the UK if she is working or seeking to work (with 3 months in which to get employment).
And in order to gain any benefits she will have to pass the Habitual Residency Test

So what about single parents - unable to work?
  • One way or another, this will not end well....

The links others posted earlier seems to indicate the opposite.
ie the state is becoming more intrusive towards who you allow to live with you, not less.

As she came here as a child, are her parents still in the UK?

Yes. But I'm not sure how well she gets on with them.
I assumed she was keeping her distance from them, to keep her distance from her ex.
    But now I'm not sure.
I think she prefers my cousin's company / help.

    Well, who knows the future?
Not sure what you mean though. Just life events.
