Preparing for Winter

Hello folks, havent posted on this thread before but have been following it for over a year now. Have started to build up a good store cupboard of tins,pasta, flour, preserves and cleaning products/loo rolls etc. I am hoping to gather enough stocks that I will only have to go shopping in Jan/Feb for fresh products, as our income drops considerably then too. Had a new cupboard built in the springtime which is looking like an old fashioned pantry with all the stuff I have -its a good feeling opening the door and knowing its there. I have also put together torches, spare batteries and have a couple of new fleeces I bought after last winter in a box high up in the cupboard so no one can pinch them. Will have to make a proper to-do list over the next few days,

Just ordered a supply of coal and hardwood logs. Chimney sweep coming on Monday so I don't have to wait when the winter comes.
Will start to slowly stock up on tins each week, will buy 1 extra every week or so along with tea bags etc.
Collecting and freezing blackberries and made some tomato chutney this week.
Saving toilet rolls to make fire lighters and will start to cut down some wood for kindling soon.Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -

Welcome to the thread chick - even though you've been in lurkerdom.
Have been sat looking at my list - seems my trip to Primark will wait until September 1st or 2nd it seems when I'm properly paid although 1st is my 8 year anniversary with boyfriend so might well be the 2nd instead!

Was thinking too the radiator in our room works when it wants so thing I will line the curtains in there with a fleece blanket to help insulate it as we are only single glazed.
Have also been making a general list of things I tend to forget to buy so thank you to whoever it was who mentioned stocking up the medicine cupboard. Plus I will be also stocking up on
* toilet rolls - I do this anyway and boyfriend laughs but cant exactly be without it can you? plus its taken a beating with babe arriving
* scourers for the washing up
* candles/tea lights
* matches
* hot chocolate (at ben's request)
that's all I have for now but will get cracking with it asap!
Dreading this winter as its meant to be a very cold one and Wales already has the rain kicking in so guess our summer is over. Plus I am hoping to lose my baby weight fairly quickly - was 13st after birth and am now 12st 10lbs without trying so fingers crossed I can make a start on that once I get my 6 week all clear.
although maybe the extra padding will keep me warmer:DTime to find me again0 -

Probably B&M home stores although I know Home Bargains do some cheap and poundland had small ones last year.

My useful daughter, who works at Mr T's, has just texted me to say that they have own brand deicer for 1p. She has picked me up some for my winter preparations. I thought this might be useful to some of you.
(This is in Chelmsford and I don't know whether it is widespread but may be worth a look)0 -
which reminds me deicer and salt are going on my list. my path is a death trap in winterTime to find me again0

I posted this the other day. There are still some left. On the Boots website if you look under Offers, then When it's gone it's gone there are small fleece covered water bottles for £5 and normal sized furry ones for £6, free delivery to store. I picked mine up yesterday and also some other ones which had been on offer, larger fleece covered ones, and am delighted with them! The furry one is so snuggly and the small fleecy one is just right for smuggling under your coat in the cold weather.It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0
