  • Where is the best place to buy electric blankets? I need a single and a double. Argos have Silentnight ones quite cheap but the reviews are mixed.

    Thanks
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round
  • This may have been posted before but yesterday I found one of those emergency blanket type things (foil ones) at poundland at 2 x 1mx2m for a pound! Bought three packs to do all the doors and windows in the house :D

I've just been given two pairs of thin cream tab top curtains from my sister for the kitchen. I'm chuffed and so appreciate her offer but they're so thin and not what I had in mind re: warmth. How could I modify tabtops? Do you think stitching a fleece to the top of the curtain (below the tab tops) would work?

Maybe I could just hook a fleece up behind on a night?

Yeah, stitching or pinning a fleece behind the curtain below the tabs would work fine. Be careful with curtains in the kitchen if they are near the hob! Always a worry of mine!

I sure will! I don't know when I'll be shopping so if you find them first, could you tell me? :)
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

A quick question about fleece/curtain method. I am planning on attaching the fleece to the backs of my curtains but just realised that during the day when the curtains are open the room will be cold! Do you keep them shut during the day too?

Yes, if it's cold the curtains stay closed! I don't care what the neighbours think about "That woman at number **, always has her curtains closed..." while I'm toasty warm inside :p

Next weekend I'm moving into a new flat at University without central heating(have electric heaters but they're quite pricey to run) and single glazing on the back where the (very big) bedrooms are.

-Bought a new king size 12 tog duck feather duo duvet in the sale from debenhams(reduced from 100+ to 23!) which I needed anyway.
-Bringing lots of spare fleece and wool blankets.
-Plug timer to turn a small electric heater on in my room just before I wake up and while I get dressed.
-Free thermal tops for bed from my Mum's work that were too small for her engineers.
-Replenishing the dried lentil and bean store.

Most rooms have thermal blinds, mine has very heavy cutains instead. I'm still looking for ways to lessen the draft from the single glazing, my windows actually rattle when I walk heavy footed past them :(
Gonna make some draft excluders out of some old clothes that are too shabby for the charity shop and do what I do best- make batches of hearty stews :D
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:
