I know exactly where candles & stuff is...in daylight
so every now & then I go around the house with my eyes tightly shut just to familiarise myself with obstacles I wouldn't give a gnat's blink to any other time.
I'm also contemplating a second emergency box for upstairs cuz isn't it always the way, that the power will go off when you're furthest from resources
I must remember to put the old fashioned phone into the little cabinet by the downstairs phone:rolleyes: cuz cordless won't work in a power cut. Need make a list for each box with names, addresses & contacts for things like the power company, GP, vet, etc. & a record of appointments booked so I know to cancel & not end up paying a dentist fee for summat out of my controlIf I can afford it, perhaps squirrel away a few coins so I have some cash if ATMs go down & make a paper copy of essential web site addresses;) ....is this just for winter or is Armaggeddon on its way:rotfl:

 Have you heard something I haven't about this winter?
I can understand stocking up on candles for the winter and insulating rooms etc but all this "walking round with your eyes closed" stuff has me kerfuddled.0 -
I can see BigMummaF's point though Haribo - I've only been in this house a few weeks and when the lights were flashing the other evening (as they often do before the wind brings cables down) I couldn't even remember where the torches were, let alone find them in the dark if the power had gone off!! oh, the joys of country living!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Yeah I can completely understand bigmummas point
although you never do take into account the masses of toys scattered everywhere so its like a mine field.
i remember doing this when my little boy was 6 months old. We were in the bathroom, power went down had to get us both out of the bath, into towels, dressed and a nappy on him, down the stairs (all in the dark) with only my mobile phone light to help me. Thankfully once downstairs i could ring my mother in law who promptly came and got us, i had no bottles made up no nothing so now i am doubly prepared although i dont have stairs to master in teh dark now as i live in a flat - jsut got to watch i dont stand on the dog.:oTime to find me again0 -

Thank goodness for mobiles! We did exactly the same when our power went out (which is does at least twice a year for hours on end). DS1 guiding DS2 down the stair with his Samsung while DH was wandering around with the laptop using the light from it to find torches.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I'm pleased to say that I can easily find my way around the bungalow in the pitch black. I taught myself to do this early on when I moved here; I often have to get up during the night, and don't like to put the light on in case it wakes Mr LW, so I've always been able to find the loo without light.
On a slightly different note, I've found an extra use for some cotton sarongs I have for summer wear (they haven't been used much this year:D ). Folded in half lengthwise, they can double as an extra shawl over my shoulders. As I can't manage to put on a jumper without assistance, I tend to favour shawls. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Thank you for being so kind to the sensibly-challenged side of my nature
Something else I have to put on my list is/are in-car phone chargers....but I can also see that the possibility of ever having to use the majority of this stuff is extremely remote given we live so far south.
Then again, those poor folk in Gloucester SIZE=1]think it's that way
