i've had a powercut already. unfortunaltly we only had candles soooo need to get some stuff. Luckily we have a woodburner so it wasn't cold.
I think some laterns as candles were still quite dark, spare batteries, camping kettle (put ob top of wb). I can't think of anything else atm
any suggestions for me??I have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammarMortgage pay off date 11/2028. Target 12/2020 :rotfl:

It's nice here, the sun is peeping through the clouds regularly and there is a slight breeze. Got 5 loads of washing out on the line and it is drying reasonably quickly
Just hope it stays like this for the next couple of hours 'till my washing is dry!

Crmbs am already planning my trip to the shops to buy some jumpers ready for winter so i can stay snuggly warm. Am dreading it - its quite cool here today, no rain or anything but i heard we are due the tailend of a hurricane come wednesday/thursday so im dreading that - hoping i can get some shopping in before then so i wont have to go out in it!
They are over here cutting the grass too so will have lots of soggy grass cuttings everywhere too
Dog must think all his christmases have coem at once becuase ive been getting him sorted today - have cleaned his bed, cleaned his jumpers, given him new food to help keep him plump - takne him on a decent 2 hour walk (he was running to the proch taking one look at the rain and running back in with his tail between his legs) so hes had a a good long run today.
Just hoping towels are nice and dry for us all to have nice warm baths later on to warm us up. Still no heating but yikes is it getting cooler.Time to find me again0 -
well, just had a call to say my new warderobe/overbed cupboard combi is coming on Friday - so next week I should be able to finally sort out all my clothes and stuff, and see what jumpers etc. I actually have which still fit me!
Best buy (well pressie from Mum actually, but I asked for it specifically) was a furry blanket/throw thingy from Lidl. Grey fur fabric one side and sort of fleece on the other. It's great on the leather sofa to make it snuggly & warm to sit on with DH - if on my own I can wrap myself in it instead - and then I take it up to bed last thing as an extra cover (well, if I can get the cat off it anyhow!).
If they have them in again this year I may treat to another one, as the DSK's fight over it when they come to stay! The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

This thread is fantastic, thanks everyone, i've picked up some handy hints here.
I packed away all our summer clothes todaymade me feel quite sad actually especially since i didn't get to wear half of them...lol
I've also got an emergency box of candles, matches etc made up and put within easy reach,my OH thinks i'm mad as we've been in this house for 12 years now and i think we've only ever had 2 power cuts, but i'd rather be prepared just in case.:pwould like to make it known it is not a DHN, she's dancing

carriebradshaw wrote: »well I managed to get my bathroom curtains made yesterday, took me ages as I'm not a natural seamstress it has to be said.I have tried in the past to follow books and patterns but it's all double dutch to me so I stick to things I can cut & sew in straight lines
even then I have to take the long way round about it but I get there in the end
Anyway now my curtains are double the thickness and a lot darker too,our bathroom is next to bedroom and I'm in and out of there a few times a night so I keep doors open just enough to squeeze through without making lots of noise opening and closing them all the time as OH is light sleeper
Most of our winter proofing is done now, need to get the other big rug out of the loft to put down in the living room,we've got 2 big rugs but we take one up in the Summer time to make it feel cooler lighter and then bring down again so we can feel cosy again once Winter comes a round.
I was looking at our front door the other day the bottom panels are just thin ply wood!!!! So not very weatherproof or secure I'd say. We've got door curtains up already but need to think about lining those panels some how to stop the wind whistling through and make them more security proof,as they are now a burgular could kick through them really easily
Hi Carriebradshaw, I have to say a big 'well done' to you for your curtains. It doesn't matter how long it takes, the slower you are, the better the job IMHO.
For your front door............... In my old house I bought a piece of half inch ply (and woodshop/B&Q will cut it to size) . If the door's too thin you might not be able to screw it to the door, so you might have to use 'No More Nails' Just zigzag it, put plenty on. Ordinary wood glue is really good, but you might need to hold it in position with panel pins maybe for a day or so till the glue dries. A couple of coats of paint, good as new :cool:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Finally got the thick curtains up on the front door - it looks so much better - and more privacy as well as we have a big double glazed glass panel in our front door and people could see right in, which I hated. Next weekend we put up thicker curtains in DD's room and DS's room. And as the weather is warmer again today, the heater is back off.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0

Lots and lots of fleeces have appeared in our little Asda, so perhaps they are now stocking up on them as winter approaches, if this helps anyone. They were cream or brown, nice and soft though, got a couple of cream ones.GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

that's a good idea, thanks BarneysmomI think it will most likely be a no more nails job as it's thin but that's ok cos OH seems to get on well with that stuff and has used it a lot over the years for different things :T I'll get him on to it
