Thank you for whoever posted regarding Asda selling cheap fleeces. Went there last night and managed to get 4 fleeces for £1.77 each for my mum.

  • Hi all,

I read daily however havent been much of a poster!
Today I made 2 draft excluders, using 1 Asda smartprice fleece (£1.77) and 2 old pillows. Just chopped the fleece in half, sewed 2 ends on the machine, stuffed it & hand stitched the ends. They look fab and rather cheap! :D
I live in a flat & the hall always gets really cold in winter, I assume from the main corridor, now with my fleece draft excluder & the lovely door mat i got from wilkos reduced to £1 which seems to be blocking the gap at he bottom of the door, hopefully this winter it wont be so cold!

I have been reading everyone elses tips & am thinking about lining my bedroom curtains with 2 fleece blankets. They have eyelets at the top & so i may tie them on in some way so they would be easy to remove come summer (ahem) maybe i should stitch them after all!!

Keep the tips coming....I love reading!

Just been to MIL to pick up DS & DD on way back from hospital visiting DH. She had a lovely hand knitted blanket in brown/cream (just siut my living room) I said "oooo what a lovely blanket" On the way out she shoved it into a carrier bag and handed it to me. I am currently sitting with it wrapped around me. :)

  • I'm still a newbie on MSE, but have been reading this (and other OS threads) for a while. So many fantastic tips! :j

We're trying to see how long we can last before we put the heating on. I have a fleace blanket at the ready for snuggling on the sofa. My door curtain is finally finished and put up in the front room (front door opens straight into the room). This was a pair of heavy duty curtains bought from a charity shop for the bargain price of £7.50! I've adapted them to create one large curtain (in a fashion, as I'm still quite new to this sewing lark!), which makes the room feel so snug:T. We've also fixed draught excluding tape around the doors today. Still need to make a draught excluder for the back door and put foil behind the radiators.

Princess kate - If you want to make a removable lining you could use velcro - you can usually buy strips of hook and eye tape from fabric shops. I love the idea of fleece lined curtains - how cosy.

  • Thanks for that fuzzyfelt, that would be a better way of attatching them rather than my random idea! Does sound cosy :) My lounge will be a poblem as i only have wooden slatted blinds at the windows & no real way of gettin curtains up, hopefully all will be ok, otherwise il just say in bed all winter :D

Felt rather chilly here this evening, got a fleece on, laptop on my lap & also tigger (my kitten) tho he has just wandered off to sleep on mybed...a hint i think!!
  • My latest thing to do for winter is prepare an emergency box for car with raincoats, umberellas, bottle of water etc in, incase of breakdown & also buy de icer, scraper, etc
  • well done painted ady - that reminds me that we need to get deicer and a scraper ready - poor bf was freezing last winter trying to defrost our car and i get a funny feeling that weather will be upon us soon enough. Think I might make an emergency box for in the car too. Its just been MOT'd (£400 bleeding pound!) so I know its working well etc but you never know do you.

He cant stand using them but im hoping he will start - he seems to be growing up now - bearing in mind hes 29, has never planned christmas and was always a rushed job, never mentioned a mortgage, and the word 'marriage' is unheard of in our house. But hes putting money aside for christmas, has been looking at hosues and saving for a depoist, and has mentioned weddings abou 9 times the last 3 days!

Oooh, maybe we'll be hearing the sound of wedding bells!

Hey, guess what? It's NOT raining!

and an old style wedding at that i might add giger - lol - i doubt it think its mroe a 'oh my god im nearly 30' phase he is going through

Its not raining here either - yet

Forgot to add on last post that had a bargain yesterday of 3 sets of curtains for 30p - the local pdsa was having a clear out sale with everything 10p so they can start bringing their winter stock in - think i will be visiting on monday to try and find myself a few jumpers/hoodies and possibly a waterproof jacket.

Now not sure what to do with the curtains - they are all green, one will line little ones curtains as planned. The other two sets are more an olive/frosty green - was thinking of lining our bedroom curtains with them as the heating in our bedroom doesnt work, but then have one set spare - and they wont fit in the livng room (window too big), cant fit them inthe kitchen (theres a blind up so no space) and the only other windows i have are front door (o space to put a rail though), bathroom and toilet (these will both be bubble wrapped),

Ive got two draught excluders (one for each living room door) could make one for bedroom door though i suppose. then what do i do with the spare curtain????
