Don't worry too much, it'll get clearer as the weeks go by :) keep posting your menu's up and we'll help tweak them.

You can certainly do SW on a budget.. using frozen fruit and veg may work out cheaper than fresh, my freezer is stocked with green beans, stir fry veg, mixed veg, sweetcorn (not speed though), peppers, meditterean veg most of the time. They range from 80p to £1.20 depending on where you shop. And being frozen means there's no waste and they're very convenient to cook.

I think, currently, a kilo or carrots/onions are about 60p at the supermarkets I shop at (prob cheaper at Ald* etc) but they are a good base to a lot of meals and I freeze what I don't use so again no waste.

Discount shops can also be a good source of canned items such as beans, chickpeas, soups etc. for a lot less than the usual supermarkets..

Thanks so much for the tips. I'm making soup tomorrow with butternut squash, and will prep some other meals for the freezer - I'm determined to make this work

I think a trip to Lidl may be on the cards tomorrow morning to get properly stocked up with the essentials

    Hi all,

Just been reading more about the plan and whilst it says to eat plenty of speed foods to fill you up, you should have all your syns too....can both be right?

I'm a little bit late to the party for this challenge I think but I'm guessing that there will be another one in the run to Christmas

I joined slimming world in January and went up until my wedding in June. My plan was to lose 2 stone but I only lost 10lb in 6 months. I was highly disappointed and since the wedding I've not returned.

I've stayed on track until recently and then I've started to slip so put a couple of pounds back on. I really need to reign it back in! We're off on holiday at the end of Oct and whilst I'm trying to be good until then I've promised I'll be 100% back on track. We've got a holiday to florida booked in April next year and I want to lose another 1.5 stone before then!

  • Welcome aboard lea and jill :hello: I think there might still be about 4 weeks left on this Challenge, so if you fancy joining in, just let Shala know and tell her how much you would like to lose by end of challenge and she will add you to the list. Good luck.

Sorry you have had a gain durham - are your health issues stopping you from exercising atm? Watching Strictly tonight and I thought of you ;). I just watch them all in awe

Well I have just had supper and I am watching Strictly. Supper tonight was 2 fruity crunch ryvita (heb) feta cheese (hea) 6 cherry tomatoes followed by a Magnum Espresso (12 syns) - only had 1 other syn all day so I have stayed within plan :j:j:j

You've just reminded me Liz3yy - we have a butternut squash left from last week - I think butternut squash soup will be appearing on our lunchtime menu tomorrow ;). Have thawed quite a large joint of pork so that will be going in slow cooker first thing in the morning and will feed us tomorrow night and into next week.

    Evening all,

Can I please check I'm doing things right? Today I've eaten or will eat the following, and it seems so much food!

I'm stuffed already and have my kitkat to munch on later, it just seems impossible to lose weight whilst eating so much!

Hi, interesting stuff though a little disappointing. I'd love to eat more fruit and veg but my budget won't stretch to it at the moment- I'll dig out the books tonight and see what I can do to get more speed in my diet without bankrupting myself

This is all so confusing :/

It can be confusing at first but you'll soon get the hang. You're doing the right thing to keep asking questions.

I do think SW can be misleading with this 'fill your boots' with free food message. It's not about the quantity of food you eat. I eat loads and have massive portions. It's about what you eat. Look at your menu across a day and if you don't think you're having at least a third of Speed at each meal then try to redress the balance with some Speed snacks.

It is right that you should have your syns. They're built into the plan and the basic idea is that if you keep depriving yourself of treats whether it's chocolate or wine or crisps or whatever then you might give up. Plus a healthy plan should have some fats and sugar, they're not banned.

Shala is right about the Speed food and it really needn't be expensive. Good idea to go to Lidl (or Aldi if you have one) as they are probably best value for fruit and veg. Looking at your menu for today, it's lunch that's the worst offender as you had no Speed with your roll and then the banana isn't a Speed fruit. If I was tweaking it I'd have had an apple or pear instead of the banana and added something like chopped onion/spring onion to the tuna.

Shala suggested frozen or canned veg and I'd add in pickles as another cheap way of getting Speed food without waste. Most weeks I buy one of the vacuum packs of beetroot to have alongside JPs with cottage cheese and I have various jars on the go of pickled onions, pickled cabbage and cornichons.

Our HB steak was lush tonight and made a pleasant change to have it as the HBs intended with chips rather than as a roast. Shame we didn't get to the pub tonight to watch football as DH was working but my team won 3-1, so something to celebrate with the weekend wine:T.

    Hiya, jill and lea.

Brilliant result for your team, maman; same score in our game – except we were the losers :(

Bad day all round for me as I was nowhere near to sticking to plan.

I am not a big snacker, but recently I treated myself with
    -Morrisons Apple Turnover
    -One Roses chocolate
The sugar taste was so overwhelming and disgusting, I nearly felt sick.

I agree with Maman depriving yourself of treats 'bit by bit' is the way forward. This way the sugar cravings will be less, and the impact on positive health will be greater,
I can honestly say that I have lost my sweeet tooth: Snickers, Bounty, Twix, Topic & Skittles plus my Apple turnover with cream just taste horrible now!
I am sure sugar is an addictive substance (frightening).

    Info:
Snacking was introduced as a way to see more to the consumer, there was a time before snacking existed; we can manage without snacking very well.
    Undo the programming!

Well done everyone for sticking with it!!!!!!
