Whether you or I would bat an eyelid is irrelevant.
Why is it that some people believe that if they don't care about something no one else does?
This forum would pretty soon become clogged up if everyone decided to post telling the world that the didn't care about some point made by another poster.
And nothing excuses the rudeness in the post I replied to.
I think you missed the point of FO's reply entirely, it was a direct response to a question:ScarletMarble wrote: »My colleague wants to know for those that live in Scotland, Wales and NI, do you feel like a 'criminal' when you pay for a bag?
Do people tut or murmur at you for doing this?
Do people tut or say things like ' Why do you need a new bag for one item?' when item is like a box of tissues and have another bag which can fit tissues?
FO's response to the question OP's colleague is asking is:foxtrotoscar wrote: »Nobody gives a toss.
As in, nobody gives a toss if you 'need a new bag for one item, even if it's only a box of tissues'. And why would they?
You've taken their post entirely out of context.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
According to their website the 5p charge applies to paper bags in Scotland and Wales
The charge applies to paper bags in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Each country's parliament made its own laws.
In England, the law doesn't apply to all plastic bags, they have to be of a a certain size, be thin, and have handles.0 -

Well, she will struggle to find a food shop which will give bags for free, if they want. Then she will he paying 70p for a pint of milk, £2 for 40.tea bags.
I expect my village butcher and the farm shop will continue to provide free plastic bags. I've been meaning to give them more of my business. This might give me the incentive.
I expect lots of independent shops will continue to give away free plastic bags (while nanny state allows them to). It will set them apart from the big corporates.0 -

I don't think she has ever been on a computer.
Even the franchises of Londis, One Stop, Premier etc are asking their franchisees to pass the levy to the customer.
Franchises don't count if the individual franchise has less than "250 full-time equivalent employees", (see the legislation), you don't count the franchise/group as a whole.
.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

It's been a while since I've been in a McD but I thought their takeout bags were paper and therefore this legislation doesn't apply to them.
So if they ARE charging 5p it's a bit cheeky to say the least !
Paper bags are not exempt - hence Primark charge for their rubbish paper carrier bags that go soggy in wet Wales. It's to do with eliminating the use of single use bags. Note charity shops don't have to charge if they give away a used bag.

The Government guidance for this has been posted many times on this thread and it clearly states:Bags you charge for
A bag is considered as such if it has an opening and isn’t sealed. You must charge at least 5p a bag for carrier bags that are all of the following:
- unused - it’s new and hasn’t been used previously for sold goods to be taken away or delivered
- plastic
- with handles
- 70 microns thick or less0 -
