Do people tut or murmur at you for doing this?
Do people tut or say things like ' Why do you need a new bag for one item?' when item is like a box of tissues and have another bag which can fit tissues?
I think your colleague is overthinking the situation. You are always asked "do you want a bag" and there is no look of disapproval if you say yes or no! Quite fun carrying out your new knickers with no bag out of M&S though!~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Surely it's just a matter of tareing the scale when the customer presses "Yes" or "Done"?
If I produce a re-used cheapy carrier from my coat pocket; the scales can't know if that is a new one or not. So will this mean the assistant watching over the self-service tills has more work to do - will they have to hand out carriers when asked and then override the till to add the 5p charge.I need to think of something new here...0 -
How do people manage in Aldi and Lidl? And back in the day at Kwiksave and Netto?0

This point has already been made - they either use their own bag or buy one - with no fuss!0 -

is this sort of rudeness really necessary?
And why do you feel you have the right to speak for everyone?0 -
When you go to McDonalds they will charge you 5p for a bag for take out if you say yes.
Link please ?
It's been a while since I've been in a McD but I thought their takeout bags were paper and therefore this legislation doesn't apply to them.
So if they ARE charging 5p it's a bit cheeky to say the least !0 -

According to their website the 5p charge applies to paper bags in Scotland and Wales0 -
Overhead an elderly stuck up woman yesterday at a supermarket'This is the last time I visit here as I will not 5p for a ruddy bag'
Well, she will struggle to find a food shop which will give bags for free, if they want. Then she will he paying 70p for a pint of milk, £2 for 40.tea bags.
I don't think she has ever been on a computer.
Even the franchises of Londis, One Stop, Premier etc are asking their franchisees to pass the levy to the customer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Do you give a toss if someone asks for a bag? Would you tut or murmur if someone asked?
Can't say I would bat an eyelid ...
Whether you or I would bat an eyelid is irrelevant.
Why is it that some people believe that if they don't care about something no one else does?
This forum would pretty soon become clogged up if everyone decided to post telling the world that the didn't care about some point made by another poster.
And nothing excuses the rudeness in the post I replied to.0
