Just got back from Morrison's. Posters at all the tills saying in large print "proceeds will be donated to good causes" and in very small print "at least 4p from the sale of every bag will be donated to good causes".

They have to pay VAT on the sale so you can hardly expect them to give the whole 5p to good causes. ;)

I wonder if the 'good causes' will be the charities with fat cat well paid executives, rather than small ones, run by volunteers.

As we are all money savers, any paid for carrier bags, which tear can be recycled thus : http://www.wikihow.com/Knit-a-Bag-from-Plastic-Bags

Can't they be returned for a remedy - just like any other purchase?

They'd have piles of not fit for purpose bags.

Possible scenarios at the self service checkouts:

    1) Person puts their own bag on the bag area. 'Unexpected item in the bagging area !' (5 minute wait for personnel to reset; possibly longer if others do the same)

    2) Person puts individual items on the weighing area, then on 'Please take your items', takes time to load the trolley or bags therein. 'Please take your items. Please take your items. Please take your items.' (How many times before it self-destructs?)

Yes I know. I stated this back in post #201 and you found it hard to believe so I was just providing further evidence.

Thanks for finally agreeing that I was correct.

Have been using Bags for life for Years. There have been a few times Tesco have given us a replacement for free whenever they have looked tatty.

Most shops i've been in have had signs up explaining the bag charge, my shop has had one too for the past few weeks, and i've been reminding customers the charge comes in on monday. The signs don#t say which charity the funds are going to but we've been informed for us its a local charity for young carers, which if anyone asks i shall pass on.

Thats the option I see on self service checkouts

If people have the inability to follow simple instructions then that is their problem and maybe they shouldn't be allowed out on their own

I am not 100% sure if I read the sign in Superdrug that proceeds from the 5p will go to Marie Curie charity.

If that's the case, then, first time I have seen a sign with an organisation's name on it.
