Just counted my bag collection, 17 decent bags (8 jute bags, 5 cotton shoppers and 4 nylon foldable shoppers) so I don't think I will get caught out! :rotfl:
My OH was just watching an article on the news about the impact of the bag charges for England and he said "yeah their boots will now be full of bags".
    :rotfl:

The best bags are the Aldi ones (40p) and Home bargains (70p). Both decent size and sturdy.

Clothes shopping if I know I'm going clothes shopping I go prepared with my lovely Cath Kidson bag or the cotton fold up bag in my handbag. If I'm caught out I will carry it on my arm if at all possible!!! It's amazing how mean I've become over last 4 years for sake of an extra 5p

  • What about all the granny types that use those ASDA hessian bags as an all purpose shopping bag on the highstreet. E.g. they go into various shops to buy things but always want it put into a plastic bag before they put it into their shopping (ASDA hessian) bag.

    Mind. Blown.

Oh, yes... I have several Cath Kidston bags... I'm a bit of an addict, although trying to resist buying two new ones I have my eye on!

Just thought of an item that should warrant a free carrier bag, which isn't listed on the exceptions - fireworks. As they should not get wet. I know they are wrapped in shrink wrap, but needs a slight tear and the time of year when they are bought, it rains more.

Rang all the supermarkets customer service lines.

Everyone of them said, that raw meat bought from a butchers counter, will warrant a free carrier bag, as meat was brought into the store loose.

Meat from the meat chillers or freezers don't warrant a free bag. As brought in wrapped. Though can use a loose produce bag. Though Aldi don't have produce bags.

This is going to confuse customers the most.

Defra need to make the wording clearer.

Do tell us why they should warrant a free bag?

Perhaps you think a packet of flour should also be protected by a free bag too - for a similar reason.

Or perhaps the legislation should be changed so there are different exceptions if it is raining?

What about shops that had undercover car-parks? Should purchasers of a fireworks only have a free bag if they arrived by bus or on foot?

It is for the purchaser to protect their purchases from inclement weather - or do you thing that is the Government's job too?

From doing a small shop yesterday, its clearly evident that many customers are still using the 'free' bags for their shopping. It didn't look like 3 days before the law is changing. Unless some of these customers will be using their own bags from Monday and getting their final 'free' lot of bags.

    They may be stocking up!

I got a free carrier in Morrisons yesterday to add to my small cache which, together with some BFL's should last me years.

scarlet, it may be confusing you, but honestly, it doesn't confuse customers, as customers we just accept that if we haven't brought bags with us, we'll need to pay for them. Simple as that.
