  • Although it does depend on how much was in your freezer, typically the excess is around £100 and when we made a claim our premium shot up the next year and didn't come down for 4 years after that. So unless you could get a lot of money back it probably wouldn't have been worth the cost in the long run even if you had insurance.

Up to £27.07 at the moment, but have quite a few things we've run out of so need a big shop soon.

Have you tracked what you're spending?

We are also a family of 4 2 adults and 2 children one aged nearly 5 and just started school and one nearly 2 year old.
My budget has been helped by free school meals though which my son now gets!

I still only spend on average £40 a week if that and I buy a lot of snacks for the kids 🙈

We don't drink alcohol though and me and hubby rarely snack. He also has a lunch at work which only costs him £1 so £5 a week.

Wow £40 a week is incredible. I would love to get your shopping list :)
My amount excludes alcohol and school meals! Kids are teenagers and they and DH are snackaholics but once the biscuits are gone they're gone. But we do get through cheese, crackers, crisps, chocolate puddings (why do they all begin with C?!) at quite a rate.

I don't track how much on meat, veg, fruit, snacks etc. That's a good idea and I'll try it. Micro-managing works better for me, I tried budgeting monthly (even with the YNAB program) but it was too "theoretical".

Got a school trip to pay for soon so its concentrating my mind a bit! Plus spending so much seems a waste when there are other things I'd rather use the money for.

Shame to hear about all the wasted food & money from the freezer. Hope you manage to get some great bargains to help fill the new one up.

Have made a chicken curry for tea tonight and a couple of naan's from out of the freezer.

    #2 NSD today :j

I was going to make a curry for tomorrow's dinner but hubby wants a crusty loaf, cheese & pickle sandwiches (he hates dinners, food in general really) so now I need a meal idea for my son & I.

    Hello everyone

Reporting in with a £7.00 spend at Uncle Sains. All impulse buys by DH

Main online shop arriving tomorrow morning to see us through the week, but have skids staying this weekend, so SS will eat us out of house and home. I haven't bought 40 sausages this time as not planning on any outdoor campfires. I'll update with a signature total, so I can keep track of spends, later x
  • Weekly shop delivered today and a trip to Lid!ls as well for my coffee. Spent £61.22 and won't need anything until next week now. Have enough coffee to last me over a month and is so much cheaper than buying direct nespress0 pods!

Total spend so far this month is £151.67. This feels so much better and meal planning makes a huge difference!

    Have a wonderful evening :-)

I'd make it anyway and freeze the portions left for another day :D

    Had another NSD today :j

I made a Hairy Biker's special fish pie tonight for the first time and had it with steamed broccoli and the rest of the snap peas. Must say it took a little while to make and created a lot of washing up . It is quite rich, and a little goes a long way, but even DH was impressed and it's a definite add to the repertoire, though I thought it needed more wine and dill.

Hope you all have a frugal Friday

NSD number 5 today and LTW no. 10.

Received £289 from First Utility as a refund after we moved to Green Star via the MSE Energy Club. It will pay for hubby's new tyres and £137.00 added to the Emergency Fund which now stands at £637.63/£1000.

Remaining groceries budget this week is £8.04. Hoping to spend only £3.04 until Sat so I can add £5 to EF
