My apple sauce needs making.....see not from a jar....Made lol0 -
not saying my income does not meet with what we spend, apart from the odd hiccup, which is why we are all here.but why is is not as easy as pen and paper for 1, as it is for a family, far more perchases to be made.much busier lives we lead.again, back to the point of all this....we are not well informed by banks about how the system works, before ever getting a charge as a preventative measure,as i said then it is our informed choice whether to get them or not, rather than paying out of lack of experience or knowledge.0

The banks have leaflets galore when you go in. The charges and systems are in them. They often send them in statements and stuff too.
You keep telling me things are worse for you. I don't see how. You tell me your life is busier doing the same things as I do, but you have 2 doing it. I can see your point! Ermmm.....0 -
leaflets tell you how much the charges are, what they don't tell you is about the system which causes them.
put it this way 4 years ago my kid sister got her first job,and opened an account for her wages.she belived the balance and didn't jot things down, she was hammered with charges for the first 3 months, coz some things didn't come out for two weeks after she bought them, small perchases of course, things you wouldn't really notice.if she knew before maybe she would never have been charged, maybe she would? but this would have been an informed choice.
apart from that,my kids are four and six, i only work part time,so not really double income,my partner works nights and i work days, we juggle house work ,childcare, shopping, bills, sleep ,the school run or in the holiday more childcare between us,as well as work.but,he is the main breadwinner, while i am the main carer.0 -
also graham, you don't have as, much to do a someone with a family,do you wash plates you didn't eat from?, wash and iron clothes you didn't wear?, tidy up mess you didn't make ?,go to the doctors when your not sick?, go to appointments that are nothing to do with you,do you have to wash ,dress, anyone else, and take them places, buy things that are not for you?like you said, this was our choice and we are happy with it, but you can't say your just as busy.0

to all those, who said pen and paper to my last thread(possible loophole??)
you give this advice as an individual and your intitled to your opinion ,i suppose but here is why the bank can't...
to advise pen and paper, cancelling dd/so ,and taking all your money out, is to imply we are encouraged to open accounts, and use facillitys. we can't use, trust or rely on.this would reflect badly on them.in effect the only way to manage your account is not to use it or it's facillitys.unless you are in the position where you earn alot more than you spend.
what comes to mind is ....why keep a dog, and bark yourself?0 -

We do not use a pencil and paper - we use OpenOffice Calc (Free version of MS Excel and much better!) I guess we must be anal as not only do we deduct all transactions on every account (4 bank accounts, numerous credit cards and savings facilities) we also project all regular DD's and incomings.
As we use Credit Cards for our spending, and pay off at the end of the month (apart from one 0% tart card which we will pay off by Xmas and the end of it's 0% period) we know about a month in advance if we are going to "run out of money" so we have plenty of time to manage that in the most cost effective way - either by "borrowing" from our savings (10% Lloyds & 6.5% ish from ICICI), Tarting a credit card onto a 0% card or doing a waking night shift at a children's home (stab vest NOT provided).
We foster for our primary income and CAN go for months without any proper income (if we do not have kids in placement) - planning is the only way to go - it's not ANAL - it's COMMON SENSE - it's helped us to reduce our overall debt by £20k in the last year and for the first time EVER we have just got back from our summer hols (3 weeks in Turkey) having paid for everything in advance.0 -
not to be rude but, if you are so in control of your finances, what are you doing in this forom? what are mini statements for? what is the definition of current account? could it be to keep a current account of all your transactions? so, if they are two weeks out of date is it current? credit cards i can see why , coz you can only get statements monthly.but ,if are given facilitys by the bank to check our accounts as and when, after all, they can ,and do reject payment due to insufficient funds ,so they have the power to instantly authorise and ear mark funds.should they not be current and reliable?
you are doing their job for them instead, of falsing them to do their job them selves.0 -

you obviously have no family, i make about 30 transactions per week, of pounds and pence.you can not tell me you would know your balance down to the last penny off the top of your head, hence banks the bank account.0
