David Lammy’s Brexit bashing backfiresBashing Brexit is familiar territory for David Lammy. But Mr S thinks the next time the Labour MP wades in on the EU debate he might do so more carefully. Lammy was on Radio 4 last night following up on remarks reportedly made by EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier that Brits need to be ‘educated’ on Brexit. Unsurprisingly, Lammy was on Barnier’s side. He said:‘When Barnier says he needs to educate the British public, I’ve got to say, he’s probably right about that’

I don't think I've ever agreed with George Galloway before.'Tony Blair's moving into openly treasonous territory with Jean-Claude Juncker meeting', says George Galloway

However the young are becoming far more politically active; Even Tim Montgomery thinks so!

Labour's Remainers have turned into Reversers! QUENTIN LETTS sees the opposition change its position on Brexit on Parliament's first day backPeter Mandelson’s New Labour is back! So you might have thought from the Commons when, on the first day back after the summer recess, the Opposition completely changed the position it held on Brexit just a few weeks ago.
Back then it accepted the result of the EU referendum. Now it wants us effectively to stay in the EU.
The transformation is miraculous, a quick-change to rival anything you will see in a West End farce. Opticians could use Labour in eye tests: what can you see now, the circle or the square? Tory MPs said Labour Remainers had turned into ‘Reversers’.0 -

They were never going to get that through Parliament as it stands now, the DUP hated it for a start.
I imagine there will be a similar exercise to come now (equalising seat sizes) but based on 650 rather than 600 seats, the good news for Labour is that it will probably be based on a more recent electoral roll, a fair few younger voters have added themselves both for the Brexit vote and 2017 election which might make a small difference to the outcome, as I think the last proposal was based on the December 2015 roll.0 -
A kinder, gentler kind of politics......where Corbyn refuses to allow leading Labour politicians to speak at their own conference:

Personally I am sceptical of "positive discrimination" in most situations - it doesn't really fit with the idea of obtaining the most qualified person for the job.
That said I'm not sure selection committees do much better at that - perhaps all our candidates need to pass a battery of tests, maybe reading comprehension, ability to debate an issue from the point of view of the side you oppose, basic mathematics and sufficient social skills not to sound like a braying donkey during Parliamentary sessions would be a good start.0 -

I don't want to look at the list in a voting booth (a depressing experience anyway) and wonder which are on there because they're competent, experienced, passionate and have strong local links, and which are there because of a diversity quota. It's insulting to voters and candidates.
Let's be honest, being an MP involves long hours, lots of travel if you don't live near London, late nights in parliament, short notice meetings, an avalanche of correspondence and daily abuse. Not many people find that appealing, and I would wager it's even less attractive to women with children, as you are regularly being asked to prioritise constituents over family. They are an EYESORES!!!!0
