It is bizarre. Most of the big unions claim to be against Trident yet all must have voted in favour or at least abstained.

Unite's policy does contain a caveat about union members' jobs being protected if Trident isn't renewed which I suspect is the key to the vote's outcome.

I'm not sure how the next step works. Conference has decided a policy which is to renew Trident. Presumably Mr Corbyn plans to vote against that policy. I don't understand why that is reasonable.
I don't find it bizarre one their primary responsibility is to protect their members jobs and as I understand it that is what they took the decision not to support motion.

The next step will be interesting I suppose labour will have a free vote, but I don't see how the leader of a party can vote against its policy.

    So either:

    1. The VP of CND votes for nukes
    or
    2. The leader of the Labour party votes against Labour policy

He really does like to paint himself into a corner. What a fool.

    1. Everbody has to make compromises, I see in Scotland they came up with a fudged solution.

    2. The whole party seems to have painted themselves into a corner.

I protect my position via hard work and bringing value not via megaphones and strikes. Each to their own, I guess.
Ever considered that sometimes people don't get recognised for the value they bring and due to their circs. can't just walk away and go somewhere else? Point is unions are not meant for individuals who can protect their own interests. They are there to assist the powerless and disadvantaged. What is there about that which is difficult to understand? Bullying and exploitation in the workplace are common and just because it's not an issue for you doesn't mean it doesn't exist. To say otherwise smacks of arrogance and a lack of empathy for others! To me you seem pre-occupied by the seventies sterotype of the unions while ignoring a lot of really good work that goes on quietly in the background. For instance in my own field ........criminal justice, (I won't be too specific about my role....Civil Service rules etc).... but there has been a terrible history of racism within prisons, amongst inmates and also amongst prison staff....when I first started visiting prisons, prison staff openly wore NF badges on their uniforms! The POA in conjunction with NAPO did major work on this and there has been a complete turn around. This work didn't start in the centre.....it started in the unions!

I see the BBC has become a puppet for Cameron's political cronies and ruthlessly broke their rules on political independence by attacking the critics of the establishment and neo-liberalism.
BBC producer deletes blog where he admits political manipulation before PM Questions

A BBC producer has admitted in a BBC blog – now deleted – that Andrew Neil, Laura Kuenssberg and himself manipulated the news to negatively impact Jeremy Corbyn during Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday. In the blog, the producer – Andrew Alexander – openly admits the BBC team were not just reporting the day’s news but trying to influence it:

That's ludicrous. The blog doesn't say what the writer claims it does let alone your take on it.

"Journalist gets thrill from breaking news story being referred to by PM". Hmmm.

V interesting....seems a bit strange though because the BBC's biggest enemy is the Tory party and biggest protector is the Labour Party. Problem with journalists and producers though ....they don't see the big picture and just like to be sensationalist and think that they can make the news. That's the point here. The best reporters/journalists are people who you never hear of. As soon as the story becomes about them.....they have lost the point! Apparently that's why Alastair Campbell resigned.

As I've said many times the point of Corbyn is that he's shaken things up though in the news agenda. The Tories were just being what they always have been.....the Tories:) and Labour had settled into a complacent Blairite alternative. There was no radicalism in UK politics, no one prepared to say unthinkable things.....like the Wests political policies have contributed to the emergence of ISIS for example! Now I don't agree with some things that Jezza says....I'm a mutilateralist for example.....but he has refreshed things and shaken things up a bit and that is good imo. Just can't understand the haters. I mean they have little to fear.....he's obviously unelectable so why so much hate and derision????

Yes, but all the hate is coming from Corbyn's supporters, and all the derision is coming from Corbyn's detractors. Doesn't that tell you something? :)

He does seem to be a complete plum. It's amazing.
