So?
You said, of the 'big trade unions' that "They might be to the left but not so far as oppose trident." And yet Unison, the UK's second biggest union ia affiliated to CND and thus opposed to Trident. As indeed are PCS, NUT, and CWU who are all in the union 'top ten', whilst Unite (who are no 1) are split over the issue.
Thus you were wrong.0 -

Don't they have mainstream banks in the USA? Don't they have the same 'money printing' ability? Hasn't cable been around 1.50 for the past six years or so? Haven't there been numerous complaints in recent times of how the strength of GBP has been damaging UK manufacturing? Are you for real?:)0 -
But that doesn't change the fact that you were wrong. But they didn't take the opportunity to change Labour policy.
Rather than carpering or antrobusing each other perhaps it's worth understanding where the disconnect is. Personally, I believe you both which means:
1. Unions are against Trident
2. Unions voted for Trident
So what happened? Did unions forget they are against Trident? Are the union people that get to vote re Trident that set union policy different to the people that get to vote on Labour policy? Something else?0 -

As an aside I don't think that opposing Trident means you are on the far left.0 -

Basically, yes.:)
I was simply pointing out that UKcarper was wrong. Out of the 'big unions' at least 4.5 of them are against Trident. The issue of why they did not want to take the opportunity to at least debate the issue at the Labour conference would be a different question altogether.0 -
I agree. Trident is (like most issues) a complex one that cuts right across traditional party lines and I'd expect a variety of views and votes from all sides.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0
