Labour have a good "local" candidate though. Jim McMahon - he was leader of Oldham council, so I'm guessing he has a lot of local support which will probably override Labour voters' feelings about Corbyn.?

    That certainly makes a difference.

Had Labour made the same mistake as they did in Bermondsey all those years ago, then I would have regarded a UKIP victory as a virtual certainty.:)

As it is, I think it will be a Labour hold.

In Oldham a Labour hold should be a given. It shows how nuts the situation is that it can even be contemplated as anything else.

May not be PC to say so but there is a large proportion of the electorate in Oldham for whom UKIP will not hold any attraction.
    I think....

It is perfectly acceptable to point out that 26% or so of Oldham West's population is Asian. Even the New Statesman is happy to do that.

Yes. The nasty Tories are in power and Labour are in opposition. It ought to be a foregone conclusion. The fact that anyone is even contemplating the idea of Labour losing the seat tells you something.

It's called froth! Fact is the media is out to get him and are trawling away. He is an easy target due to being a campaigning MP and has defended all sorts of 'loony left' studenty causes in his time. He didn't expect to be shadow chancellor either so probably hadn't been careful enough about his media image during his past career. He must be a spin doctors nightmare......the little red book stunt was another gaffe!.....:).... just the sort of authentic politician we need more of! Many politicians though cultivate their images to be so safe and publicly neutral that they hold no genuine beliefs other than what it takes to get into power. Fully acknowledge the pair of them are unelectable as a result but we know that anyway! Doesn't change the fact there are a lot of issues out there to fight over and that will continue!

You may call supporting the IRA as a loony left student cause but many disagree.
The problem is that he is doing great harm to the discussion of real issues as no-one can take the idiot seriously.
Who's going to listen to some-one quoting from the mass murderer Mao or to an idiot calling for the abolition of MI5?

Anyway I was assuming you would be on here celebrating all the new taxes on business as you know they make as much sense as McDonnell.

(did you ever get to speak to your mates about their IRA views?)

Very few students, every the radical left, supported the IRA. And supporting things is one thing, then denying it and lying about it is something rather different.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

That doesn't mean that they will vote Labour of course.

If given the choice of voting for Mr Corbyn or Mr Farrage I think I'd stay at home instead.
