Maybe the staff are not allowed to pick and choose when to close down their till and leave it unattended especially as it's in the area behind the till where the cigarettes and alcohol are normally kept.
That's exactly what would happen. There's no pleasing some people.0 -
OP shop in Waitrose.
My OH was once stopped on his way out by a manager. He was addressed as Sir and asked very politely if he had purchased a sandwich. When he said he had not he asked if he could look in his carrier bag, which he did.
My OH asked if he would like to look in his jacket pockets and the manager laughed and said no sir.
Obviously a better class of 'stop and search' in there!!0 -

Oh, I'm sure such a post would appear within the hour!! And yes, you make a good point about leaving cigarettes and alcohol unattended, especially if the shop is fairly busy. Even more reason for effective staff training in how to approach customers, I would argue. Really, all the assistant needed to say was "excuse me, sir/madam, please could I check your receipt before you leave?".0 -

Exactly. The manager didn't say to your husband "Oh, but I think you did, Sir".0 -
aftet posting here, I went to Tesco live chat, who made me feel somewhat better about what happened and asked me if the manager should ring me ( which I said yes). Live chat couldn't apologise enough although I understand it's someone who probably sits chatting all day apologising for something out of there control.
Sunday I spoke with the store manager who assured me the person involved would be sat down formally and spoken too. (As far as I am concerned this is what I wanted as I also work in the convenience business). The manager assured this won't be happening again, and also asked if there was anything else he could do for me (I.e compo) this was a No no for me. for thee guy to be sat down formally was the tip of the iceberg burg for me. I knew he done wrong, he knew he done wrong and that is now the end of it.
As far as the store goes. It's a great store and I only go in there as does my wife, as the customer service is great. All the staff are usually very nice and pleasant. It is also next to a co op where the customer service can be non existence. In the past I have pointed out shoplifters in this co op and also stopped fights between security guard and customers. I am although I say it myself a good customer, honest beyond doubt and reliable. If I say can I owe you 1p, the next time I shop i will mention i owe 1p and pay it ( and insist).
Little light
When the event happened there was 1 guy on a till, he had a que of around 5 people and no one was using self scan. I always use self scan if I have a few items. Sometimes I get spirits from behind the counter and I also put them through self scan. I am a regular there. When i order click n collect ,y click and collect. I don't get Get asked for id as they know me and my wife.
Was i right to feel aggrieved . Dam right
Was I right to be given apology. Dam right
should I have milked it. Probably yes (that's the way of the world now) but I didnt.
Not been in there since, but I will return once I fell less embaresed.
Thanks for everyone's feedback, but if there is ever a next time I won't bother posting as the forum seems to be full of trolls and flames.Started advent comps 04.12.2013

It's really nasty behaviour but I doubt it will ever change, many posters on here get a kick out of being nasty because they are probably inadequate in the real world.0 -

Sometimes I get followed around shops, I think it is because I fumble a lot. I am a walking stick user and take breaks around the shops, but I think the security think I am stopping to pinch things, obviously I am not, I just need a breather.
But I can see why they think I'm stealing. I don't care I just carry on regardless.0 -
