Accused of shoplifting, fobbed off.

I'm sorry would have been appropriate. Not about compo, think the assistant got off lightly as he broke the law. You cant just accuse for shoplifting, you need to see the theft taking place.
I think you've gotten slightly mixed up with making a citizens arrest.
To make one, you need to have reasonable grounds for suspecting an indictable offence has taken place - such as witnessing them stealing something. Because if you're wrong, you can be charged with unlawful arrest/false imprisonment/assault.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
You can't usually self scan alcohol- it needs a supervisor to approve and check your age.

Story not suspect.
And you have a point, the assistant was on the till and authorised the sale.

He said he didn't think you scanned both bottles, thats not accusing someone of shoplifting, thats accusing someone of not scanning both bottles.
I know on most self scans I have seen (Asda for sure) they have signs about random checks being part of using self scan.
Seriously this is not something to feel aggrieved over.0 -
Of course not.
But nothing more to be said on the matter here.
Yes
In other words as no one on here agrees with your feeling {rightly so}so I take it you will now find people that agree with you that way at least you can then feel better.
It is a shame that these days all one person or company in someones mind has overstepped some fictional line and it is straight away onto a forum to plead their case hoping that they will either get compo or at least sympathy.IMO too much has crossed the water from the US and the sooner we go back to looking at things normally the better for everyone.0 -

What law was broken ?
Maybe he could have said sorry, he asked to see your receipt which you showed and thats it, no law has been broken here.
Thread title is wrong as you weren't accused of shoplifting.0 -
