Accused of shoplifting, fobbed off.

If so, you must have put the two bottles through at much the same time, so why would the assistant authorise the first one without noticing you were about to scan a second one?
When did the eventual apology happen? You first said they had just commented "okay" and let you go.

To make one, you need to have reasonable grounds for suspecting an indictable offence has taken place - such as witnessing them stealing something. Because if you're wrong, you can be charged with unlawful arrest/false imprisonment/assault.
Section 24A of PACE, suggests you've gotten slightly mixed up yourself.0 -
Probably went back the next day, said that they'd been accused of shoplifting (which they hadn't) and then Tesco apologised on that basis.
Op is silly.
That's exactly it, you know me better than myself.
In fact I never even went in the store, I made the whole thing up and only posts here to see if i could get some tips on how to get some compo.
If only you had made the first reply, this could be dead and buried.
Thank the forum for people like yourself, I can see your a worthy addition to all the threads you post in.Started advent comps 04.12.2013

Perhaps you'd like to show me where that section of pace conflicts with my post. I certainly can't see it.
And before you respond, I'll go ahead and fathom a guess that you've taken my post out of contextYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

That's right, at the time of posting. Since then I have spoken with tesco.
They'll apologize about anything though. You could complain that you don't like the colour of the mats at the front entrance of the store & they'll write a reply back with an apology. I can even guess how it would be probably worded!
"We're sorry you don't like the colour of our mats. They are placed at the entrance to assist with the health and safety of our customers. They are purchased in bulk to supply the whole company so the colour remains consistent across the whole chain. I will pass on your comments to the Store Manager."0 -
Tesco are used to dealing with stupid and difficult customers all the time.
It's far easier to apologise and give them a freebie than to listen to their incessant, inane and incorrect accusations.
All self-scan tills wil have signs saying that spot-checks can take place as obviously it is easy to make a mistake when scanning (or deliberately). You're obviously hyper-sensitive OP so should stick to shopping online.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Went to my local tesco express and bought 2 bottles of beer at self scan. Paid for them put them in my bag and went to leave.
The assistant behind the counter said "exscuse me,did you pay for both bottles".
I replied "yes" to which he then said "I don't think you did, can I see your receipt".
I showed him and he said ok,and that was that.
After leaving the store the more I thought about it the worse I felt.
Yesterday I went in to complain and see the manager, but he wasn't there and I saw the deputy.
Again I felt quite let down. He said to me he would have a word with the assistant involved.
Am I right to feel aggrieved and fobbed off.
It would appear that Tesco has been down a similar road before and you're not alone in the experience you had, OP:

There are ways and then there are ways of going about things like this and the OP didn't mention having been taken aside somewhere less public by the assistant, before he started speaking. Nobody has a right to make another person feel publicly humiliated, irrespective of whether or not they've done something wrong, and if the assistant didn't think about employing tact and diplomacy in his handling of the matter, then he really shouldn't be doing a customer service role imo. The one consolation might be that he was left with egg on his face as soon as the receipt was produced.0
