  • Are the SkyQ boxes similar to Sky +HD? By that I mean do they record to a local disk?
The concern I have with the recent crop of streaming systems is they force you to watch adverts - like Youtube, and you can't spin forwards when the adverts turn up?

I'm now officially out of contract as far as I can tell. Waiting for the win back people to work some magic.
Yes they do, they have a hard drive they record to so when watching back you can fast forward through the ads. I do like the Sky Q box a lot, just can’t justify the cost if not offered a good enough deal.
I was tempted at the £33 a month for the Q box and no admin - but in April they will whack that up to £36 for the remainder of the 18m period, somehow always catching you with another stepped up tariff on the last month. That's what pulled me back from agreeing.

I do know that some of the more enterprising sales people Sky used to these posts, I wonder if they still keep an eye on them?

The spinning-type hard drive in our Sky +HD box failed, so when the engineer came to fit Sky Q I asked if it had an SSD inside to which he replied "yes" (apparently laptops last a lot longer now they tend to be fitted with SSDs). When I powered it off recently it sounded suspiciously like a traditional hard disk inside, so I think he was talking rubbish. Difference is Sky own the Sky Q box, so if it goes wrong they can sort it. Had to power it off a few times as the YouTube app seems to have a bug where it will play a few seconds of a video then exit.

Yes there will be a price increase in April so factor that in if £33 is the most you’re happy paying. To be honest part of me is hoping they don’t offer me a deal that’s too good to turn down, all this negotiating fuss every 18 months is barely worth it anymore. Especially as I’ve been told one thing on the phone before by them, agreed to the contract then it turned out to be something else. I complained and got it sorted but their customer service doesn’t seem as good at the moment so I’m wary if offer not in writing on a live chat or via email.

My Sky TV deal runs out mid Jan. ,so I'll soon be joining the cancellations merry go round, especially as my HD box is now very unreliable. Currently paying £38pm that is supposed to go up to £72pm !! (not happening!)
Had to laugh as I've just received an email from Sky telling me "not to worry" as they are going to extend my deal into the future - except they aren't as they are proposing a price of £60pm, so still an increase of  £22pm - no thanks ,Mr Sky !
  • Considering the last offer-
£33 pm for; new SkyboxQ, no admin, one off £20 off this month, Signature, Cinema, UHD

Is that offer actually any good?
The assistant said it was 50% off.

So I went on "future bills" yesterday on the website, it shows a new after min. period price of £53pm from Feb. so less than the email just received. Still not good enuf but it really is shambolic. I bet that when I phone them next month to cancel ,the agents will deny either of these "offer" prices !
  • I spoke to cancellations today. They admitted straight out that the prices for new customers are far keener than for existing customers. Being a VIP Diamond Member, in effect, classifies me as a "sucker".

This is their unrelenting offer for contracting for a further 18 months:
    Signature £27
    Sky Sports £23
No mention of Sports HD costing extra
    Sky HD £5
    Multiscreen £15
    Total £70

Could I get an equivalent offer outside of Sky Q for a better price? My family rather boxes me into this, and they want Eurosport.
I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

Looks like you have/had the same package as me. That "offer" is truly awful. They are having you on there.

Thank you, DonnySaver, for coming back. I telephoned Sky again and got clarification that Sky Sports does now include Sky Sports HD. I asked whether I could cancel tomorrow (after discussing it with my wife) without speaking to an agent, and they said not.

  • I got cut off last Thursday.
Still no additional emails to come back.
