  • Just had a call from SKY, Not sure what department she was from.

Discussed my cancellation and surprised the woman said that my SKY Q box would work better with Sky broadband....currently I have Virginmedia BB only.

I tried to get her to expand on this statement and she wasn’t giving much away.

So the call ended....I’m assuming my packaging to return box will arrive soon

What a con artist, the box works with any BB provider.

I got the impression that she wanted to offer me a bundle and then discount it.....I like Virginmedia BB as I don’t have to have a phone line.

Assuming then that having SKY BB doesn’t release any extra functionality of the SKY Q box

Actually it is true (depending on what exactly she said) as with Sky BB the mini boxes function as WiFi hot spots and so will give you a better WiFi signal around the house.

We "cancelled" at the weekend. Originally had the old Sky plus box which keeps glitching, sports F1 package, HD, box sets and along with the BT broadband and phone line were paying £51.50 to sky and £54.00 to BT. We had planned on trying to consolidate the broadband to sky with their black Friday offer but it wouldn't offer a discount online to us as existing customers but the new customer offers were pretty good so I phoned in a huff to cancel everything.

Ended up speaking to a lovely lady who offered us:
    Sky Entertainment
    Sky Q box
    Full sky sports
    Box sets
    HD
    Super fast broadband and router
    Broadband boost

For £56 a month over an 18 month contract. I can't remember how it was broken down with all the discounts but given it was just under 50% off what we currently pay and she waived the admin fees we were more than happy. We're just waiting until 24th December when the Engineer comes out to set up Sky Q and we can finally binge a box set without it shutting down and have to be reset every 5 minutes.

I cancelled Sky in April and up till now have had a monthly email from them offering Sports and Entertainment for £42 a month. I had an offer today of the same packs for £25 pm on an 18 month contract. Other packs are an extra £1 pm, Cinema £5. Its for Sky + only, not SkyQ. Seems like the deals are slowly coming back on.

Out of interest, after being rid of Sky for some time, were you tempted?

I'm considering it, I like the Sky+ system, but I have a Youview recorder I have been using, I got Now Tv Entertainment reduced to £3.20 a month to watch Sky Atlantic etc. Sport is available from various other sources, so at the moment I could do plenty of other things with the £450 Sky would cost me over the next 18 months.

I got rid of Sky last year in favour of a Virgin Black Friday deal, each month I got a letter for Entertainment, started out at £11, then went up to £15, then £25 with Cinema.

Last Monday I decided to go back, cancelled Virgin as they couldn't offer me another deal as an existing customer.

So I signed up for £28 per month for Entertainment, Cinema, HD, Kids and Box sets.

Saturday I received a new letter stating £18 for Entertainment & Cinema so I am back on the phone with Sky to make sure they adjust my deal.

    EDIT -

Just got off the phone after an hour, and they reduced it to £19.50 per month with a £27 credit to the account to cover the other £1.50 per month.
Also I got half price ultimate on demand which means I can ditch current Netflix sub and save another £10 per month.

So a little update.....box arrived from sky to send back my SKY Q....also a letter saying call this number for some “extra deals” .....called them and not sure which dept they were but nothing really special from the,......certainly nothing like any Black Friday deal....

So shortly will be boxing up SKY Q.......will need to now look for a decent PVR recorder to reco4 review etc.....
