Hi I've been offered a discount and want to run it by people here.

    I'm currently paying £68.99 a month :
    Variety tv £32
    Phone line £18.99
    Talk Anytime £8.00
    Broadband unlimited £10

I want to keep the tv and phone packages the same, but change broadband to fibre. They said they can do it for £45 a month (they will charge me £53 a month then credit £8 back) and it will be an 18 month contract.

My concern is that I won't get a new sky box and mine is 3 1/2 years old and out of warranty. They said they would give me a new one if it breaks even though the warranty has run out but I don't see that in writing anywhere. Also I keep the current hub as they said that's fine for the higher speed broadband?

I don't know if this is a good deal or not, any ideas?

You should push them for slightly more - and if you have problems - CANCEL - You can always pull out of the cancellation on-line at the last minute if you change your mind
Set a limit of say £40 - tell them what you are willing to pay and stick to it
As for your box - is it a standard HD box or older ?
Have an "accident" with it - and claim a free (non-Q) replacement - (with associated warranty)
And ask them why they need to credit a refund to you - and not just reduce the change ..

A couple of things to watch out for, firstly is it the unlimited fibre? Secondly is the full discount for the entirety of the 18 months?
If yes to both then if you're happy with the deal then go for it, it's not a bad deal at all. I've found Sky to be very good at replacing the hardware if necessary.

    Thanks for the replies.

The box is the sky + hd one, I'm really unsure about her saying phone retentions if it goes wrong as they are under no obligation to replace it especially once I'm tied in to another 18 months. This worries me the most. She said sky wouldn't leave someone under a contract without a working box but I'm rather a cynical person I guess!

I forgot to check its unlimited fibre - I must do that. The deal price is for 12 months but the contract 18 months so I should probably ask for the deal price to cover the whole period.

Never ever agree to a deal like that, get either 12 months or 18 months but with the discount for the full period. Their adverts for fibre is actually for the limited download version and it's very restrictive. There's no point in having fast download speeds with limited download caps. it's like spending £150,000 on a Ferrari but only being allowed to drive it on Tuesdays.

If you're on a say 50% off deal and you cancel, will you get the discount back if you change your mind (ie they offer nowt better).

If you're on (say) 50% discount you'd usually be under minimum terms anyway. If on a rolling monthly discount it'll be for a fixed term and they're likely to just stop the cancellation going through and leave you on the same deal. You'll still have to renegotiate when the end of the fixed term comes up.

Unlikely, might get a bill credit if you proceed with cancellation and contact them after disconnection. All they seem to be offering now is 50% off TV.
