I do wonder if I wasn’t put through to retentions. I just went through the automated menu. However, having now looked at the TV packages I know what I want (Bigger Bundle + sport) which as a new customer would be £72 per month. Don’t know what it’ll cost if I add it to my current package but it gives me more wiggle room I hope.
Even if I don’t get it at £72 we’re currently paying £127 without Sky and Virgin so I’m pretty confident I’ll save some money

If you're paying £127 combined for Sky & Virgin then you're paying approximately £50 to £60 too much every single month and have been for years (£600-£720 per year).

Throw those figures at your husband and then ignore his wishes.

As you have one for TV & one for BB you can play them off against each other but you do have to be confident speaking to them. Never ever phone up and ask them 'what can you do for me' or 'can you help', they're businesses and their aim is to get as much money out of you as possible.

Check what new customers get for Sky & Virgin TV/BB packages (make sure you can get all of the channels you want, Sky Atlantic for instance is not on Virgin) and then phone up either one and state that you want to cancel (none of this 'can you help nonsense). They'll ask why and you can give them the combined price and what you'll get for it, make them talk rather than fill in silences yourself. If it's not good enough then proceed with the cancellation, then phone up the other company and do exactly the same. You'll get much better offers from both and you'll need to decide which one suits.
  • I had a really good deal with Now Broadband 36 mbps plus all inclusive calls costing £25 per month. This is coming to an end this month so just rang them. Straight off they offered me the same deal but costing £ 21.50 Per month. I didn't bother haggling!
  • My BT broadband/landline contract ran out so I compared prices on Money supermarket. The best was £35.99 per month with Plusnet. I called BT who without any haggling offered a new contract at £34.99!! That's a reduction of £24 on current cost. Exactly the same deal as Plusnet but cheaper. I'm so pleased I decided to call. Thanks MSE.

I had an argument about an increase to my bill. I phoned at 1 pm and the clown I spoke to wanted to put the price up another £2, I asked to talk to a manager and was told he would phone me within 2 hours which of course he didn't. I phoned them back and again asked to talk to a manager at 3:30 and again I was told it would be 2 hours before I could talk to one. I have opened an official complaint that I will take all the way to the ombudsman.
Meanwhile the 2nd person i spoke to was a Glasgow girl and she has restored my price to what it was for another 6 months.
P.S. a manager phoned me 2 days later and did not know that I had accepted a new deal, he was returning the 1st call when I mentioned the complaint he said he would listen to the call and email me forms the next day to fill in that was 5 days ago.
    GONE ENGLAND
  • Little bit weird... I'm with BT currently and paying £35.99 for 64Mb broadband.

The service has been good, never struggled with speeds or anything like that but I only went with them out of convenience. Now it's approaching 18 months and I've just spoken to their retention team.I pointed to the Vodafone deal for about the same speed for £23 per month and also that their new customers going to BT on my current tariff can get a cash incentive through various sites online and a choice of either a 4K tv or an X Box...

I was offered a £5 reduction (so £29.99) but nothing else, apparently to go lower would mean "BT would be losing money on my contract" which sounds highly unlikely lol :)

Question is, how can I get BT to come down lower or failing that, is Vodafone broadband any good? The BT lady said they're new to the broadband market and not as stable a service and they're only £23 to undercut BT but they'll be losing money hoping to keep me when the price goes up lol - but what do you lot out there in the real world think?

They use the same lines as BT although customer service can be iffy,if your close to a BT cabinet speed will be good.I was with Vodafone for 18 months with no problems at all,got a steady 64-67 Mbps and only left because they wouldn't match new provider Now broadband price.Who incidentally are doing super fibre 67 Mbps for £30 a month including anytime call package and possible £90 cashback via quidco
  • Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I am literally just across the road from one of their cabinets, if I look out of my window I can see it right there :)

Funny thing is that if the woman I'd spoken to had said that they'd come down to say £27.99 or something then I'd have probably just agreed there and then but now after our conversation I'm less inclined, and all for a couple of quid... Ah well, Black Friday is coming up so hopefully I'll be able to get a great deal then ;)

    Thanks again!

If you use the landline at all then NowTV include Anytime Calls in their packages.

The haggling guide recommends researching current prices of providers of broadband, but I have LRS, so need to be able to see clearly what the providers are charging for broadband.

These days, since the introduction of so-called transparent pricing (i.e unified pricing), I can't do that any more, as it is not clear how much withing their price is going towards the line rental. I found the old system much clearer, so I could try to find one which charged for broadband per month, say, only £4.99, £2.99, £1 or even £0.

Does anyone have any suggestion please, how I, as a LRS buyer, can easily find out simple broadband prices again,

    Thank you
