    morning all

To use a Valli-ism: wooty-wooty-woop, this morning I have eaten the Frog that was part of my summer challenge - my 2014-15 tax return! :j :j :j and I've done it 19 days and 11 hours earlier than I did last year's, IYSWIM :D Now I have to pay £25.60 tax owed because my State pension was due on Mon 6th April this year, but because it was a Bank Holiday the government paid it early on Thursday 2nd April, putting it in the previous tax year, thereby creating unnecessary difficulties on the tax return  Oh well, it's finished now, and I have made a big red note in my file not to count that week's pension in the 2015-16 return as well ;)

DH has taken himself off to one of our local auction houses with a crate full of model railway stock that he is decluttering - and I didn't have to persuade him to do it :A

Big congratulations to Lynnejk on dealing with your cane toad. I am still working my way slowly through my study, and then some day I've also got to sort the family history papers that are piled up in the loft... :o

Well done Biscuit monster and Frizzle on your flying achievements this week.

Hope you are back on form today, Lame Wolf. Take it steady!

Honey Bear, I am so pleased to hear that Kelpie and Devil Cat managed to ignore the fireworks yesterday evening. I'd never heard of a Thundershirt before. I'm sure it would have been an enormous help with my last dog, who tore up carpets and wrecked rugs in the fireworks season until he became stone deaf.

Doobop, the heavier the iron you buy, the less you will want to use it.

I'm going to hang out the washing, have a :coffee: and read my book until DH comes back for lunch ;)

Have a good day, all x

Frizzle.. that is very old recommendations.. very few paints are solvent based now and lead stopped being added in the 70's.. so you are perfectly fine doing glossing too.. but if it gets you out of it.. go for it.

Lol! It might make hubby pull his finger out....

Well done on the tax return! :A:A:A are in order.

Lynne, I'm so impressed with your RoD toad; mine is a never-ending RoD but each major clear out reduces the clutter by another few percentage points, which helps.

I've only recently heard about thundershirts and I posted on here asking if anybody had any experience of them because they're not cheap and I didn't want to waste the money if they're just *meh*. All my previous dogs have been deaf, by accident initally, and then by choice because they're a lot less hassle than hearing dogs so I was really worried about how a hearing dog would react to the fireworks. It's very, very loud and lll-ooo-nnn-ggg, over two nights Dizzy Imp had one that she wasn't using so she offered it to me (thank you, thank you, thank you), sent it to me and suggested I try fitting it on Kelpie before it was actually needed. Success!
    Better is good enough.

Well pleased with myself! Also walked dog, got children to tidy their room and all had time to sit and do some crafting with them. Isn't it funny how one day you can achieve nothing and the next loads?

Lynne, well done on the toad :j
Doobop hi, I've got a steam generator and it's great, I only have to iron one side. It has lasted me seven years so far, so was worth the extra, although the one I bought was one of the least expensive at the time. Mind you, maybe the reason it has lasted is because I keep putting off the ironing (still have record breaking ironing pile) :o

Thanks both, never used this quote thing before so hope it works. Are the steam generator ones heavier? Ironing only one side sounds great!
Afternoon off today so tackling the bathroom - worst room in the house ATM then hoovering the stairs - what fun!
  • Doobop , mine isn't heavy, it's just like a normal iron when ironing, the whole gubbins is a bit cumbersome (the bit that has the water in) but I never move that bit as I just always have it set up. If you are going to be getting it in and out of a cupboard all the time it could be a pain.

By the way, nothing done! Been out for dog walk and picnic all day. X

    Afternoon all :hello:

Thank you all for your kind comments re my toad. I guess the horrible weather and a broken ankle actually helped as I wasn't tempted to go out walking as I usually do most days :rotfl:

Iona - well done with your tax return
HB - lovely news that your tactics worked so well with the animals

I need a new iron - I usually buy the cheapest and they last about a year but it takes me forever to get OH's shirts done and sometimes some creases just won't come out.
    Any recommendations?
I absolutely loath ironing - especially when the iron's not up to much. After years of struggling with cheaper ones I bit the bullet and bought a Russell Hobbs powersteam pro 2750w. I have found it very good so far, but TBH I don't iron much only when absolutely necessary :D

I didn't go to town as it started to drizzle so put off until the morrow. I will have to go then, whatever the weather, so fingers xd it improves.

Done all the dailies, cleared some e-mails, dusted right the way through and just going to declutter a cuppa. Then I'd best get on with the tuna pasta bake for dinner - think I'll make an avocado salsa and some garlic bread to go on the side.

Glad the Thundershirt worked for Kelpie Honey Bear :D

I've been MIA for the last couple of days as yesterday was Small's 4th birthday and we travelled down to see Nanny and Grandad and some other rellies and have only just got back. No flying done really - WM and DW on and car shovelled out. How can a car journey generate so much litter? I'll be back on board tomorrow, promise.

I also have a steam generator iron ('cos I totally love ironing). The actual iron is lighter than my old one as it doesn't hold the water and I find the steam produced is at a much higher pressure and more effective. *cringe* I sound such a nerd....

Some of you have eaten massive frogs - well done girls :T

DH and I walked along the front boundary of our property on Monday, pacing it out as we want to have a stone wall continued along to the end of the orchard and we found a walnut tree, resplendent in huge green "conkery" fruits! Here's hoping the pesky squirrels don't get to them first! Now to cost it all out _pale_
