    To live somewhere with character is worth it to me, so is paying more to run a nice old car.

    You can retrofit somewhere with character, it doesn't have to be good for environment or bad for environment as the only options. Unfortunately this is considerably more expensive, so most people opt for bad for the environment.
    The stone is pretty thermally dense.

    Something along the lines of high thermal mass, right?
  • I mean it has a high specific heat capacity...takes a lot of joules of energy to raise the temp of each kilo by a degree C.

    However, surely new builds, especially ones that have been built in the place of an existing building are worse for the environment?
