You can retrofit somewhere with character, it doesn't have to be good for environment or bad for environment as the only options. Unfortunately this is considerably more expensive, so most people opt for bad for the environment.

I mean it has a high specific heat capacity...takes a lot of joules of energy to raise the temp of each kilo by a degree C.
