To live somewhere with character is worth it to me, so is paying more to run a nice old car.
You can retrofit somewhere with character, it doesn't have to be good for environment or bad for environment as the only options. Unfortunately this is considerably more expensive, so most people opt for bad for the environment.The stone is pretty thermally dense.
