You can't make assumptions. I read the list through a couple of times and thought that it would work well with comfortable shoes.

Very few women wear ties. Or make a big thing about the collars and cuffs on shirts.

I still feel it reasonable to assume they are male :p

Yup, sorry forgot to mention my footwear.
    1x black oxfords
    1x brown brogue
    1x blue suede boat shoes
1x converse hi (will replace with running shoes when worn)
    1x slippers
    1x flip-flops

You need more work shoes. It does them no good to be worn daily as they don't dry out properly - no matter how good the quality.

Yup, mostly, but we are still in the phasing out part for her. She would rather wear things out, than to chuck them out.

For the most part, we have reduced ill-fitting clothes and multiples. i.e. 3 black jeans; 2 sent to charity etc

Slightly alarming use of 'we' there...

Between the brown and black, with some cedar shoe trees, monthly cleaning/polish/waxing, they've lasted a while. 4 years for the black, 3 years for the brown. The brown shoes are ready for a new heel (£6 at my cobblers).

She does have more. 2 wardrobes actually. But she is becoming more and more attuned to my minimal wardrobe styles.

Before: £10 sweater from new look on sale. Buy right away.

Now: hmmm, do I need it, is it made of natural fibres, does it go with my wardrobe, I'll pass...

    Not really.
    Do I need it all?
I'm with LilElvis on this one.
'need' & 'want' are very different things. :)

I would guess that your wife is in a minority. ;)

Why? we = my wife and me. It was a consensual clean up of her wardrobe.

Yup, money saving sometimes requires curbing your wants. And it doesn't come easy to everyone, I suppose. I've learnt it and now the wife is too.

My OH would never participate in a clean-up of my wardrobe.
Probably because he would never broach the subect as he knows he wouldn't get my consent.;)

Its a difficult subject to bring up. Especially when my OH has grown up with things like FB and instagram, where here friends/family/followers etc are always posting things like "bought new shoes!" etc. But if spoken about correctly and shown how much the extra money/space this stuff takes up, then gradually you can work towards minimalism. No hard and fast rules, saying it has to happen overnight. Plus even I am not aiming for a 10 item wardrobe, I still have 'more' than I need, so nothing is forcing her to give everything up. Just a question of how you look at it I suppose.

"get rid of your half your wardrobe" vs "get rid of one of your 3 pairs of black jeans" - slowly will get you there.
