Funny you mention it being the car, as a friend has suggested it since the onset was just after changing it!

Son's first choice is History still and yes, he's keen on lecturing, fellowship, academia....back up is in the sciences field with a proper job :rotfl:. It's great he has an idea of what he wants to do, as so many don't.

Yes, I got the first name of the girl - but I only know 2 of the bullying girls names and it's not one of those, but doesn't mean it's not the 3rd. Good point on knowing our address - may have spotted me in the car and found us from that on the driveway. Hmm, don't want to waste police time, but OTOH you never know. Lady seemed nice enough, I'm erring on it just being coincidence at the moment and the minute anyone steps on the driveway, one of the dogs barks like mad...that would hopefully put them off :)

  • In our area we have had women knocking at doors asking wierd questions and then marking the brickwork outside so as to mark houses to rob. Just check for chalk marks just in case.

I'd say it's strange though, probably just those girls thinking it's funny (which it obviously isn't) id let the police who you've spoken to already know just in case.

Could it be worth swapping cars with your mother or brother for a week or so and seeing if that makes a difference? :)

Getting into History wouldn't be an easy choice but at least it's not science ... ;):D.

    Be careful re. the girls.

    Wow, that's rather disturbing.

Around here, there's been a few issues with farm equipment being stolen by 3.14159-keys. No doubt they drive around in the day time looking for opportunities, not sure about marking houses / barns though.

Bearing in mind I live in statistically the safest and lowest crime area in the whole country it is rather disturbing. This was indeed done during the day to the sister of someone I know.

We have a local parish monthly 'publication' and it has a crime report in it for the month and it usually includes theft of farm machinery and a few domestics although this month the church had its gate stolen!!! What is the world coming to.

OCC - that is scary indeed...I went and checked outside, there I was with huge torch in my PJs and dressing gown, when neighbour's son comes walking past to go home - funniest look ever :rotfl: Great! Shall be the talk of the close tomorrow :rotfl: and as it's my god-daughter's cousin, no doubt I'll get an inquisition too :rotfl:

Anyhow, no marks on drive, nearest path or the close...so I phoned the Police - turns out it was bona fide and the girl has been found and returned home. Good outcome and shall sleep better knowing that.

Alex, there was a warning local to here about agricultural vehicles being stolen and for petrol stations and cash point owners to be vigilant...hey presto, 2 in the early hours ram raided, didn't get away with the safe just left buildings in a complete mess, safes in the street

Mum doesn't drive and bro's car is at the airport for a good while, mind you, it's almost identical anyway - same colour, year etc but next model up. They'd likely think it was mine, but now we know this evening wasn't to do with them, can carry on as normal.

:rotfl: History degrees are good for opening up many subject/career paths, but he's hooked on the military stuff which I agree with you on - he doesn't want to go into the forces either. Science he's good at - R&D into ice cream and tea sounds quite fun I reckon :)

OOC: Shocking, really. Unfortunately, I don't really think it's anything new, though. :(

Just checked the crime stats website out of interest. In the last month there's been one report of "anti-social behaviour" (whatever that means) and nothing else in my village. Whereas, in Bakewell, there's been anti-social behaviour, 3 burglaries, shop lifting, 3 violent offenses and a drugs offense. Hmm, looks like I'm better off out of there.... what a ghetto. :rotfl:

Glad to hear it was genuine. :)

I really cannot understand the break in and trash mentality of criminals. Break in to steal money, whilst abhorrent has a purpose but breaking in to cause a mess and potentially destroy somebody's home or business in the process I find more shocking.

Not long ago, I helped my neighbour with some extra fencing as he's quite worried about someone getting onto his land. I think he's somewhat worried over nothing but they are starting to get a bit older so I don't mind. Funny how his son isn't available when needed, though.

OK, car swap is not an option then!

History at undergraduate level is very broad and is also very popular amongst people that are passionate about the subject and want to stay in academia. To get anywhere (academic career) he'd have to be one of the very best, passionate about a particular area of history and somewhat lucky. An academic career in Science would be easier; there were students that went to uni with Mrs K that got funded PhD places with a 2:2 in Engineering. That would be unheard of in the Arts, before being considered for a PhD in Music, I completed a Master's despite gaining a First. Something for him to consider in a few years.

We live on a lovely estate with some big houses that are home to several drug dealers! So lots of security cameras and cars being parked in strange places (dealers trying to hide them from surveillance). We never really been sure what to make of it all and some of the neighbours are really concerned about burglaries etc... If anything i think we're a touch safer living next door to them though as i'm pretty sure they try not to bring trouble to their own doorstep, but i suppose only time will tell. The 5am house police raids are interesting to watch though...
