Sexuality/religious beliefs are not going to have an impact upon your job.
Illnesses may.
Just to be clear, I am not saying the OP should "spin a web of lies". I am also not suggesting for one minute it is anything to be ashamed of. I am saying an interview is not the place for it to come out.
I am not suggesting that people should be discriminated against because of their sexuality for one second it makes no difference. A Christian can do a job just as well as a catholic or atheist. But equally if I was a practising Muslim and needed time to pray everyday if I did not tell my employer that I needed the time and then just started to take it, it would cause issues and possibility bad feelings. You obviously don't give them a p45 for a job you claimed not to have!:rotfl:
I used to just say I never received a p45, and was asked to fill out a p46 and that was the end of it!
Employers are not thick! Really! Honest!
I am employer and I have real life experience or dismissing someone because they lied. They said that they had certain exam results which we said where needed. We employed them. They then had to complete an industry specific qualification which entry requirements where as requested. They requested proof and as the person did not have them they could not provide them. Two months, wasted !
Sad thing was during that period we had taken on another person who said they did not have the results. We contacted our local college who fast tracked them, three months later they where working for us and still are. Doing very well actually. Four years on any they are a big part of our team because they are not afraid to tell the truth for good or bad.
The other person while I feel sorry for them, if they can not be honest about something like exam results what else are they going to lie about.
OP this is a big opportunity, a fresh start to do what ever you want to be who ever you want please do not build the foundation of your new start on a lie.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
Some of you write as if i'm suggesting trying to fool the CIA!
I have actual experience of this and I know of a number of other people who have used such tactics to improve their chances of landing a job too and I know what works and the best ways to do it.
I'll leave it at that. Without a common point of reference it's difficult to carry on this sort of discussion as some of you have only read about what can supposedly happen if you're naughty and lie on a CV, and how you'll always get found out etc, whereas I actually know due to variuos life experiences!
OP - Do whatever you feel is best.
Good luck
This is a public forum - you should not be suggesting people do anything illegal.
It may not seem that important to you, but some people (I would hope most!) don't want the risk of having their lives ruined.
It seems you and the other people you know have been lucky so far, but that doesn't make you right and nor does it mean it won't one day catch up to you.
If they find out, which could very easily happen, there is no may or may not happen. You will be fired. It's deception, lying, fraud, they won't be able to trust you.
"Some students have been jailed for six months for lying on job application forms, it emerged, but the offence carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in the most serious cases. The disclosure came as figures showed a sharp rise in employment-related fraud, with prosecutions soaring by almost 60 per cent in just 12 months.
According to CIFAS, the UK fraud prevention service, 324 people were prosecuted in 2013 for all forms of fraudulent applications, including submitting false paperwork and withholding information."
News story from last year.

Obviously it's not just students who lie and get caught. I also don't doubt that they're doing even more now as it's still difficult to find work and so some people will turn to illegal tactics.0 -
It also depends on what types of jobs you're going for.
Most of the cases of people being caught are students (who have no idea how alot of this stuff works) applying for flashy high-paid jobs in huge companies with huge HR departments, and lying about the *wrong* things in a way that can easily be discovered. Some of them idiots were lying about their grades for example. That's stupid.
Choose you battles wisely.
Deleting a job from your CV for example can be very difficult to uncover. People do it all the time.
Is Not admitting that you like getting in fist-fights on the weekend also 'Dishonest' and 'witholding information'?Nobody would admit that in a interview if you were asked about your hobbies, although the suggestion seems to be that you should!

Just seen your edit.
Yes, I agree. That's an example of an idiot. You don't lie about some things such as exam results which are so easily verified..
However, deleting a job that you got fired from as if it never existed is certainly best in my view.0 -

Oh made me giggle. As at teenager late eighties early nineties I always remember stating that I enjoyed music and socialising with my friends as a hobby. What I really meant was clubbing and getting ????Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -

Yeah, but not all are so stupid and they still get caught. Lying about grades is stupid, you're obviously going to get caught.
As for deleting a job, yeah people may do it often but generally it's due to the fact it doesn't have anything to do with the job they're applying for or it was very short term and they have other long term jobs so they just miss that one out. Not all will be for bad reasons. Is Not admitting that you like getting in fist-fights on the weekend also 'Dishonest' and 'witholding information'?Nobody would admit that in a interview if you were asked about your hobbies, although the suggestion seems to be that you should!
I said be honest, not give your life story and share every little detail. You can be honest and keep it brief and/or only share relevant information.
Although even with fist fights, if it were in a controlled environment or some sort of club or whatever and you're doing, for example, a job that requires heavy lifting you could say you keep in shape for your hobbies as you are part of a fight group and that'll help with the lifting as you're strong. Fighting doesn't mean you're some out of control, violent person. You'd have to word it right, obviously, but it could be a positive thing.
Course, if you walk around the streets and are attacking people or causing fist fights after drinking or something then that's different, but I'm not sure you can call that a hobby. If you have cuts and bruises everywhere from constant fist fights they may also realise you're hiding something and they would most likely notice that in an interview.0 -
Religious holidays would come out of normal holidays as they always do - so that is not an argument.

They have to be taken on set days, not all employers will find them days suitable. If they really need someone to be working that day and especially if they're a small company it could have a big impact. Plus, people will still judge others on that.
It's still relating to a part of the OP. We went off the the main focus long ago though lol.0 -
The employer has the right to refuse it. If that date is then taken off it becomes a disciplinary matter.
I have to admit, I am giving up on this post. Everyone know my opinion, going back and forth will not change either of our opinions or anyone elses. We both seem to have likes on our posts so it seems there are a few supporters of both sides.
Its unlikely I will be checking this post again but to the OP, I wish you all the best no matter which route you choose to take.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
