It's your night and you should be able to do what you want. You should certainly not have been put in the position of this potentially making you ill. If other people feel that the proposed event is not exciting enough for them, they are free to go and do that when ever they like. If they don't want to come along and share the evening with you, they are clearly not your friends.

Hard though it might be, I think you really do need to get this sorted out in advance, there is little/no chance of the BM listening to you on the night, especially if he is being geed up by your other work colleagues (I hesitate to call them friends).

You have the options of calling it off altogether; everyone doing it the way you want or your work colleagues doing their thing while you do yours with your non-work friends.

I second the advice to have a look at the BM's speech in advance too. If he is so unaware of your personality that he can spoil your stag-night, he is capable of getting in wrong on the Big Day too.

I hope you and your fiance have a lovely wedding day and a very happy life together :)

I wonder if part of the problem is that a lot of people may drop out with the blues club thing.

That's perhaps what has instigated the change, undesirable though it may be, and you may need to come up with another plan yourself if you want all those people to attend.

Why though? I'd LOVE a night out at a blues club, especially if they had decent acts in. Jazz, soul, blues - all fantastic genres to accompany a night with friends, drinks and great conversation. Not for everyone - but, as demonstrated by this thread, neither is a night of drunken witless tw*ttish debauchery.

Lucifer, any update? How are things? OK I hope. x

It's your stag do, so it should be what you want to do. If the Best Man really won't see reason, fire him!

Mr LW and I didn't even have separate stag and hen parties, we went out for a meal with two other couples, and the six of us had a lovely evening that we could actually remember the next day!

I wish you and your bride-to-be a long and happy marriage.

Me and my OH didn't have stag and hen parties either. We went for a curry with our 2 best friends who were going to be our witnesses. We had a great evening and, again like you, none of us had a hangover the next day.

People should do things they way they want to not the way others feel things should be done. We were told we were strange because we had an evening together (it was actually the evening before our wedding). We also spent the night together and drove to the register office together which a lot of guests were horrified by. We were told it was very bad luck and our marriage would not last! Well 35 years later we are still waiting for the bad luck to strike!
The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie
