  • Been keeping up with the house work and this thread! I know I lurk more than post, it is helping so much but I cannot get to grips with my washing drying and ironing!
Sorry this is a bit of a babble but here goes..... I have two very active sporty children and so is my oh but I'm more of a spectator. My partner is in the gym 6 days a week. (Sweats like crazy) and then dives in the pool so 6 days a week that's (swimwear pants towel shorts and t-shirts and socks) he is an engineer and has to have fresh uniform (as he comes home looking like he's been down the mines!) 5 pairs of work trousers a week a t-shirt (winter =jumper or fleece daily and weekly a coat) plus pjs and normal wear fair play he does try and extend the life of these! (He gets t he tax break on the uniform wash I think this should be paid to me....)

DD has school uniform change 3times a week plus daily wear (knicks socks) p.e in school twice a week these come back unwearable again due to the messy sports her school likes to do! (Summer holidays my kids try and extend wear the nicer things play things tend to be changed daily (we live backing onto a farm and they often play their with next doors children.... Mostly end up home covered in mud and animal poop!) she does swimming twice a week, dance 3 times a week, brownies, girls football, theatre and horse riding..... (All but brownies wear is changed after every use as dance is changed every time due to the hall being dusty and theatre wear as well)

D/s similar to d/d with p.e and school...... Plus twice a week swimming, twice in football, rugby and judo......
Me: I change my socks and Knicks and everything else I try to wear as long as possible!
Bedding is changed fortnightly and towels are used a few times.....
I tried the One load a day approach that didn't work, Currently on 3 loads a day and minimal ironing but still end up with mounds of washing and ironing!
My question is how do you all cope I feel like my life is being run by washing...........

frooglefraggle when mine were younger and all 5 were at home and Dh had a similar dirty job, I think I was doing 2/3 we loads most days, drying was a pain as we've never ( and still don't) have a tumble dryer, so getting stuff dry was a hard. Sometimes in winter or when the weather was bad doing washing was dictated by drying space. I couldn't do any more washing till I'd got more space to dry things.
All you can do is try and keep on top of it and give uniform and essential items priority.

Thank you Mrs-moneypenny, I have a washer dryer my quickest was (without drying is 1h) I find the tumble dryer function is useless! We don't have much during space so thankfully I have a small line! But still struggling, I'm self employed but work very random hours two days are never the same! (About to start full time and try to keep my business going as well..... Thinking I may have to bite the bullet and hire a service! Dreading the thought of that!
Just showed my dad the 8yr old how to load the machine and switch on! Also taught her how to make coffee......... Now part of her daily chores ( she makes her bed and does her and my sons cereal and toast! Thankfully it takes my mind off one load a day lol.....)

You won't beat the highest ironing mountain I think I hold that record! In my pre flying days the only time of the year for reasons only known to my brain the ironing basket/pile needed to be emptied were Christmas and before the holiday. My worst ever was a pile that leant up the wall and reached windowsill height, it took me about 4 days of solid ironing to clear when it was like that. NEVER AGAIN!!!! Little and often is the way to go.reason being the longer it stays in the pile the harder the creases are to get out and if you have small children there is a danger things will be outgrown while they are in the pile. Trust me this has happened!

I think I can beat you on this one ... I have an ironing pile that is a feature in my living room. It even has it's own throw over it to make it look pretty...lol

On a good day it is to the top of an 160litre storage box...on a bad day (which is more often than not!) it is almost double the size in height.. The other day, in the corner, it was halfway up the french doors in height..very scary... I think it needs it own room now..lol I do prefer all washing clean rather than dirty washing hanging around..hence all the ironing with it's own throw....lol

I don't! :rotfl: hence the reason for subscribing to this thread. My washing is just about up to date, but a quick trawl through the upstairs rooms has resulted in another full basketload. And the ironing? Well....

Ooh, dancemum! Advice please! Suggested to my mum that she get DD some tap shoes for her birthday. Any idea where best to look please? Don't wish to spend lots as it's mainly ballet at the mo but they do spend a bit of time tapping. She'll probably grow out of them soon enough, so any tips on what I should look out for? Imagine she'd love a glittery pair... <rollseyes>
    TA for any advice! Xx

Does the dance school have a uniform list? Our children have black PU ones by Katz. They have a large tap which makes a good sound. Youngest children just need taps on the front. Slightly older ones have heel taps too. Canvas shoes are cheaper but not so good. We also keep a supply of 2nd hand shoes for swopping or for sale at a small amount, so your school may too. It is best to buy dance shoes from a proper dancewear shop/supplier as most sports shops aren't clued up. A couple of sites I have used are dance direct and dancing in the street.

2x wm done, bathroom cleaned, largest sofa throw washed and out on whirley (someone got chocolate on it)
    Ds1 decluttered to work moaning
ds2 is calm at the moment. Scratch that he is screaming again :(

natty I said it went up to the window sill but I didn't say how wide it was stacked or how far along the wall it spread;) I could just about hide mine with a throw and by pulling the settee across if people came round.
