Is it selfish to not share comps?

I don't think Di is saying not to use MSE for comping, or that it's a waste of time coming on here, she even recommends the site and contributing to it on her blog, the gist I got is if you want to improve your chances of winning don't just expect it all to be done for you like MSE does but put some effort in and search for comps yourself. If you choose to share them or not is personal choice.
I don't think she was greedy by not sharing the comp for tickets, if its something your child really really wants then you will do what you can to provide it for them. It sounds like it had multiple draws or prizes and she did eventually share it. Whether it was right or wrong is another matter but I can understand her reasons why.You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

So if it's a prize on your wishlist that you really, really want, anything goes.
To increase your chances I suppose you could post the comp with the wrong answer, or if it's already posted then post it again hoping some people enter a second time and disqualify themselves, or post it with an extended closing date so all the end-daters miss out. After all, just as it's not a crime to not share, it's not a crime to get the answer wrong, post a dupe, or get the end date wrong. But to do it deliberately due to your own greed says a lot about your morals.0 -
I don't even know how to search for competitions myself.
Does anyone have any tips? I'd like to give back to the community.

There is no 'law' to say 'You see a competition and you MUST share it with all those people who you don't really know' however, it is through all those people that I don't really know that I have won countless competitions in the past.
I'm sure that when I won money on Facebook that the person who'd shared it would have also loved to win, I'm sure when I won my weddingmoon that the person who posted it probably wanted to win it - and likewise those people who posted those comps have probably won things in the exact same way from other people and so the circle continues.
Yes, you will have greater chance if you don't share it and you'll probably win a lot more than everybody else - good on you. I wouldn't want to do that though - I prefer a nicer comping community and believe in karma. Keeping things 'secret??' are we all still at school??Best wins: £10k Kitchen, weddingmoon in St Lucia, £3000 cash, 3 x iPads, £1000 cash x 3, tickets for my niece to meet Justin Bieber, Thailand holiday, Milan holiday, Mulberry iPad cover, Mulberry clutch bag, £2500 Peter Werth clothing, Dubai holiday, Center Parcs holiday0 -

If everyone were to stick to just entering competitions they had personally found, communities like this would not exist. There would be less entries for the comps (and a better chance some would say) as less people would find said competitions and eventually less comps all round as companies would see them as less fruitful.
I find the 'keep it to yourself' side of things very selfish and totally against the ethos of this section of the forum.0 -
I post comps I find even if I want to win them (on the odd occasion I find one not already posted!)... Mostly because it'll almost certainly be posted on here eventually anyway and by then I 'd probably have forgotten I'd already "secretly" entered it and would do so again and dupe myself lol. I need to post it so I can green tick it:rotfl:2018 wins: Aspinal of London jewellery box, Boudavida gym outfit, HP Pavilion laptop, The List party tickets, All Points East festival tickets, Kiehls moisturiser, By Terry cc serum, Nars Liquid Bronzer, Benefit highlighter, Nars illuminator, Fresh advanced lip trio set, Cetaphil sample set, signed copy of My Absolute Darling by Gabriel Tallent0

I have nothing against Di, I was just surprised she wrote this!?
Even though she's done it before?
It was part of her "job" to share comps via the prizefinder. She admitted she kept one to herself (that she won). I remember some people kicking off back then.
I personally think it's greedy. Though, as others have said, it'll find its way on here 99.9% of the time anyway. Thanks to all posters :A0 -
I'm probably a bit overly vocal about people entering comps on here all day long and never posting anything themselves. I think there should be some kind of membership rank where you only get to see low ranked comps untill you gain a certain number of posts, or thanks ... obviously that'll never happen though.
In saying that, I haven't posted anything for a while, but I also haven't entered anything for a while
I generally wouldn't bother posting smaller comps like a £10 voucher or a dvd, not because I want to win it more because it's not worth the hassle of searching / posting0 -
i think its selfish not to share , i dont post up comps as i never find them and invariable when i do find one and think its not here its already on , every comp i enter i would love to win , as would i presume everyone else that enters so its peevish to keep them to yourself surely thats why they are called competitions cos you have to beat the other entrants
anywhos best of luck to one and all but especially me :P
my name is Kit and im addicted to competitions , the what if is my driving force!!
