    ARGH!

Was told everything had come back to our solicitors and the final report could be compiled ready for us to sign and exchange contracts, but just had an email stating that they have information about a "document referred to that includes details of specific restrictive covenants (restrictions) affecting the property which the sellers to do not have in their possession and neither does the Land Registry" have tried to call, as the email only states the above and is very vague but not one person (in the 4 person team looking after our case) is in the office...even though one of them literally just emailed me!

Our vendor has sent me the email from their solicitor which says it's from a document dated 28th July 1934 which is before Land Registry have documentation
    .
Our vendor has agreed to an indemnity policy, but our solicitor wants her to pay them more than the policy costs as an 'admin fee'

I'm so fed up with them - lying about queries etc, refusing to answer calls or emails and generally making a simple process (No chain as our seller has already moved into rented so we can get in as quick as possible) really difficult and stressful!

  • Ugh - hope that is sorted out sooner rather than later. What a painful and stressy experience house buying is. Thinking of you.

Thanks CCL, I feel bad for whining away at the moment - especially as buying a house was something I didn't think I could even dream of. I suppose I just didn't expect it to be so stressful when there was no chain....looked so easy on paper!!

    Hey there

Sorry it's all a bit stressful at the moment. Without sounding irritating I hope, try and think how lovely it will be once you are in. This is just a short difficult phase that will soon be over I am sure.

I didn't know I was having a girl no. So all the nicer.

    Hi Bob,

Not irritating at all, I'm glad of people reminding me that it is temporary and worth it all in the end :)

Hope you are coping with little sleep :)

So today is FINALLY payday....I'm still unsure how much to budget for the first mortgage payment as we don't know for sure when completion will be, makes it quite difficult to plan (although the first mortgage payment will come out of Novembers pay, it will be significantly more than usual so will have to keep some aside from Octobers pay to cover it, if that makes sense?)

I've made a large-ish PAD to vanquis, I'm determined that card will be gone before Xmas....not sure how manageable it will be with the house - we just don't know what sort of bills/costs we are looking at until we move in.

Although I've lived in my house for 3 years, I've lived with a housemate so whilst the big furniture is mine, there are a lot of little things that we will need (kitchen utensils, a kettle etc). OH is being very sentimental about some things - refusing to use my existing bedding for our new bed as he wants our bedroom to be completely starting from fresh (excluding wardrobes and chest of drawers) and whilst a big part of me agrees and wants new bedding for our first proper home together, I want to debt-bust more!

I'm off to scour eBay for bargains, which is pretty much how I have spent every work break since we looked at the house ;)

Having scoured ebay for bargains, I have now realised that there is a 20% off tonight only! so have ordered some new bedding - OH got his way after all. Not expensive stuff - £30 for a king size set and we both really like it so happy days in Kirtsypoos land with regard to bedding! (and still no credit card spending, only thing going to my CC is my PADs :))

Have been trying to chase our solicitors for an update all day and they haven't responded to my emails or the call i made this afternoon. Really want to put a complaint in but I don't want to rock the boat until it's a done deal!

House buying is so stressful but it will all be worth it. Whenever I look at a globe or think about the Earth, it's satisfying to know that I (and the bank) own a tiny tiny bit of it. :D

When I've bought previously, solicitors have driven me mad. I think they forget that we don't do this day in day out so we do ask loads of questions and need to know stuff, and that they are providing us with a service for which we are paying. I haven't moved for 12 years.....make of that what you will :rotfl::D

Ikea is good for little bits and bobs for the kitchen. When I first bought my flat, I bought loads of cheap stuff and slowly replaced things over the years. I've still got the same cheese grater though :o

Great ebay buy, nice one. Hope you hear from the solicitors tomorrow :)
