I tell you what. These couriers really know their stuff,eh?
Did they also know my partner has been off this week decorating?
I also was at work today, did this slip from this couriers omnipotence?

    I was at work.

But, to be fair, put yourself in their shoes. If, as you say, you are quite a bit out of town, would go all the way to your house, knowing that the parcel required signing for, taking the risk that during the week you might not be in, all for fifty pence?

Sorry but every time I see the threads headed Hermes I am 99 percent sure {and am normally correct} that it is going to be a moan.
It is not HERMES that are the problem {apart from believing the CV that they get from the people that courier for them} it is the COURIERS themselves. Over the many years we have been having things ordered online and delivered by many courier companies whatever one that Hermes has taken on to deliver to our address have done a great job and {to date} we have only been let down twice with goods going missing at the hub sorter when it has shown "on hub trailer" but then nothing. Both times a quick email to the company the goods were ordered from and replacements were sent. These days {due I think a good rapport with the courier} ours and other persons in my street have no problems getting our orders.
I know many may say we are lucky but as I have said I do not believe Hermes are the ones to blame and should be to some extent reflected in the thread heading.

Ultimately it would be the company's fault. If they are not prepared to ensure their workers are paid adequately, the couriers are going to act in the most cost effective way for them.

No,I said I live on the other side of the city. The Hermes depot is outside the city in Newbridge,to the West of the city. I live to the east of the city.
I certainly didnt choose that location for them ;)
I live very much in the city. Im a 10 minute drive from the city centre.
If they aren't going to make an attempt. Why bother updating the tracking?

So poor Hermes are at the mercy of these self employed charlatans?
You keep posting up about a business model I know all too well.
Yet cant seem to answer a simple question.

But your question doesn't make much sense. Are you asking, "does the courier just walk into a depot and say, 'Good morning, I'm taking these parcels to deliver to the recipients' ?" I am pretty sure there is more to it than that.

Yup,So Hermes are very much active in the choice of courier.
using self employment doesn't abdicate them of that.

You seem to be placing a huge onus on these couriers.
What about tracking data? GPS data?
A parcel with 2 failed deliveries that never happened. send them out the door with the 'staff' they are forced to use?

Hermes are "forced" to use courier this way. This is the way they have chosen to use them. From what I have been able to gather, from the various courier I have had contact with over the years, it is the couriers who are "forced" to work this way, they don't seem to have much of a choice.

Which goes full circle to my opening post.

Which is why I suggested you call Hermes CS as they would have access to the GPS tracking data as to where the courier was when they updated the HHT, be that outside your property or elsewhere. We only have your word that they didn't actually attempt delivery and you say you were at work so how would you know?

As to being "forced" to use the "staff", it is Hermes option to use this business model. Can't blame the courier for providing the most cost effective service they can, after all they're self-employed and need to make a profit too.

    You not read the replies?
The house hasnt been empty all week.
So basically I made this post to slate Hermes and lie through my teeth,to what end?
So we cant blame Hermes and we cant blame the courier. Well I guess that just leaves me......

And just maybe she didn't hear the courier at the door if she was busy decorating? For the third time, if you really want to know who is at fault then contact Hermes CS. You can do it via FB, Twitter or give them a call. You seem intent on blaming the company/courier without being in possession of the full facts.

I wonder how many times you've returned a package or parcel to the sorting office when the customer has actually been at home all along but either didn't hear you knock or couldn't get to the door in time. At least the Courier re-attempted delivery twice more at their own expense which is something RM don't do!
