I'm not sure I've exactly survived the transition, but I think I'm getting there. I've started doing bits and pieces in the evening, but I've also been at the radio a lot too! I need to find a balance. In fact, I need to write down some things I want to achieve and then plan backwards from there.

I'm still not sure how I really feel about going from my amazing 3 day week back up to 5 either, but more about that in my full update!

Thank you all for writing in here, even when I haven't. It's so lovely coming in and seeing your posts.

Health wise I have no updates. Which is a good thing.

Work wise has been interesting. I had my appraisal last week by my line manager and it was just about ok and probably the worst one I've ever had here. So I had a chat with the new Director to ask if he's happy and he says he's very happy, particularly with how I've grasped my new role and thrown myself into it all despite all the unrest and changes. He asked if I was happy with my appraisal and I said I wasn't really so we discussed that. He was upset that my increased hours wasn't given any credit and also that my attitude and adaptability to all the changes was overlooked. I've made a note on my appraisal to state that I didn't agree with much of my appraisal and we'll see where that goes now.

That's all the sort of negative!

I've seen my new salary and I'm very happy with that! It doesn't include my increase yet, so even better! The problem is I've spent the extra and more before I've received it! So I need to get organised with my finances again. I bought practical things though, so I'm not beating myself up too much.

I also have a decorator booked to come and look at my dining room tonight in the hope he can come in 2 weeks and sort that out! It's the last dire room I think. I was going to get the living room done too, but I've decided to paint that a nice white and ask the decorator to put up some coving for me to hide the impurities where the wall and ceiling meet. It all depends on price though as to how much I'll get done. My house is currently off the market until 1 October, but I'd like it to go back on 19th September after I've taken new photos. I need to "borrow" some furniture to make it look homely too!

Tonight, if I have any energy after the decorator visit and rushing into the studio for a while, I'll get YNAB all totalled up. I've listed everything but haven't put any financial information next to it. That needs to be updated either tonight or first thing tomorrow after my salary hits my account.

I hope you've all had a fantastic bank holiday weekend and are enjoying your short week!

    MTxx

My house looks like a tornado has flown through, so I'm not sure what the decorator will make of it. I haven't been home the past 2 weekends much, I've only had time to make a mess, rather than tidy up too! I'm going to rush home tonight and get hoovering before he turns up.

I think the radio trainee has given up on me! With all that's going on around my head I've been a bit (a bit!!??? very) high maintenance. I may see him later as I have to go into the studio while he's doing his show so I'll see how he is with me. I'm hoping he'll at least be ok with me, although he's a nice person so I'm sure he will, if a bit distant.

    MT,
I always admire your quiet assertiveness, the simple fact is you know your worth and that comes across whether you are dealing with car salesmen or line managers. Funny, but it took me so much procrastinating to start this diary but so glad I did I've learnt so much from reading diaries like yours. I expected to learn about finance from the MSE community, and I have, but it's the life lessons from people like you that are just as valuable. Thank you, and have a fab week

Decorator is booked! He came a little later than expected, but I'd forgotten the time we planned so it wasn't an issue. Although he didn't have the most professional air, he just came across as being genuinely friendly. I'm confident I'll feel comfortable with him in the house. He was quite fatherly and not in that patronising way!

He had a look at what needed doing, kept showing concern at the cost as there's a lot I need to be done (I'll buy the bits needed too although he will supply paint and the wood needed to box in my gas pipes) and then dropped the bombshell of costing half the amount I thought he was going to suggest! I'm so happy with that, but thought it too good to be true so I've done some online research and I've found lots of lovely reviews for him so he's coming on 12th to start and should take 3 days. In the meantime I'll paint my living room as he'll put up the coving for me and I want the paper painted first.

Next job is to order some cheap and temporary "show home" furniture to make the house look like a family could move straight in and love the place. I'll get those things delivered during the 3 days I'm off, so need to get choosing. We have a BHF furniture shop near me that I'll check out. Otherwise it'll be cheap and cheerful Ikea stuff.

YNAB is all up to date and other than forgetting a budget for Car Insurance it all looks good. I decided that all the spare money I have right now is for my savings and I'll start again with my budget pots for things I need to save for. Those are things like insurances, MOT, TV licence etc. Just stuff like that.

My refurb phone arrived recently so I spent some time setting that up last night. I then went off to the radio and my trainee friend was lovely to me! So much so that I completely weakened and took the advice from lovely people here telling me to go have some fun! I had some fun!!! :D

Today I'm shattered. So an early night is planned! Is it a bit sad that I'm really excited about having no plans tonight other than getting to bed as early as I can!!!! :)

Today is a good hump day. I hope it's good for you all.

  • MT your decorator sounds great, and a surprising quote to. Everything seems to be coming together and you sound so much more positive. I found some great furniture bargains at our St Luke's Warehouse but I am still to scared to go to Ikea. I only want a couple of pictures but it wouldn't stop there so I will do without lol. It won't be long before that for sale sign is out there again.
