    Yep, whatever you say. there's no battle, no conflict, it's all nice out there and fatalities are on the decline.

    I haven't got a clue about the nuances expect that an increasing number of cyclists are dying every year.

    Back in my world, you can die for your so called rights and I don't give a flying fig. Your relatives might though.


    Me, I'll happily plod away at the side of the road (close to the kerb) and stop when I come up behind a parked vehicle if there's someat behind. It suits me not to put myself at risk by 'riding assertively' or 'standing my ground'. I understand the nuances of physics thanI you - driver wins, cyclist lose

    If you're that timid a cyclist, you'd be far better off giving up cycling. All you're doing is reinforcing the misconceptions of the arrogant arseholse.

    No, it suits me just fine. I can't say that anybody has run me off/over or that I've had any near misses in the last 20 odd years of cycling. I guarantee you that if I rode 'assertively' though, I'd be in for a full house almost every day.

    To balance that out - cyclists should ride close to the kerb. There's no need to be 6feet into the roadway, that way you'll reduce your chances of getting skimmed (not that I'm condoning that behaviour either).

    My cycling proficiency drummed home that the car is superior and failure to accept that fact may lead to a swift and inevitable demise. Rightly or wrongly, there's many a cyclist would still be alive today if they'd heeded that pearl of wisdom.

    Have you actually cycled since you did your cycling proficiency test? I have. Have you seen how much crap there is in the gutter? Then there's the sewer gullies, put a wheel in there and you end up on teh road in front of a car. Do try and think of other road users as the law requires you to do...

    Would you class somebody who just pootles down the shops as much of an authority on driving?

    Or, perhaps, could they be an utter liability, and it's only their limited experience and exposure that saves them from themselves?

    I just find it so sad that someone can feel so intimidated that they behave like that.

    I too don't want to put myself at risk - but I'm certainly not going to ride along in the gutter with all the rubbish that there is there.

    I pay for the roads just like anyone else and I don't have to justify my use of what I am entitled to.

    I choose not to use cycle tracks as where I live they are paired up with the bus lanes and bus drivers tend to give you less room that car drivers do.

    I think they should at least make it more aware to people that the speed limits we see on signs are only to car drivers. Im not happy at all!

    What is the GVM (gross vehicle mass/weight), it is significant. If the van's weight is over two tonnes, the speed limits ten miles per hour less than for cars on single and dual carriageways.
