prosecution for doing 60 in a 60 zone

Im not happy.
I got a notice of intended prosecution for speeding.
I read the letter which stated i was doing 60.
Its a small company van which is leased so they actually sent it to the lease company...
I rang the police when i found out they were after my details to give them the info and ask them what the speed limit was as I always try to stick to limits.
60 I was told..
however as the vehicle is a light goods vehicle i should have been doing 10 percent less the police told me over the phone..
I have a friend who is a policeman and he has never known a speeding fine given to someone not doing over the limit.
I guess theres nothing i can do...
I think they should at least make it more aware to people that the speed limits we see on signs are only to car drivers. Im not happy at all!

I think that drivers should make themselves more aware of the speed limits that apply to the type of vehicles that they are driving.

If it is a non car-derived van or a van with a gross vehicle weight in excess of 2 tonnes the limit is 50, where the limit for a car would otherwise be 60. Many van drivers are not aware of this, but ignorance is no excuse.

BTW the limit is 60 for dual carriageways and 70 for motorways.

60 in a 60 zone when you should have been doing 50 ;)

If the van is over 2 ton you should have been doing a reduced speed limit of 50.
You were 10mph over the limit for the vehicle type you were driving.

The latest shape berlingo is just over 2 ton for example so impacted by lower limits. Hubby has a sticker stuck to his sun visor to remind him of the lower limits.

You said 'small company van' - exactly what kind of van is it and what is the max gross weight?

I thought this to be the case. I regularly see white van man doing in excess of 90 on a Dual Carriageway, IMO, do they not value their license/job
