Not for a car it isn't, if there is a metal Armco dividing the carriageways on a dual carriageway it's 70mph for cars unless otherwise stated , no Armco then it's 60mph
Even if the centre reservation is only grass, there is no difference and the national speed limit for cars is 70mph.0 -

From https://www.gov.uk/general-rules-all-drivers-riders-103-to-158/multilane-carriageways-133-to-143A dual carriageway is a road which has a central reservation to separate the carriageways......0 -
I thought this to be the case. I regularly see white van man doing in excess of 90 on a Dual Carriageway, IMO, do they not value their license/job
Down here in Kent the majority of vehicles which are way over the speed limit, seem to be large vans of all descriptions - transits, sprinters etc.
Even when you are overtaking at reasonable speeds, they will dangerously tailgate to try to intimidate you out of the way. Then they carry on to their next victim.0 -
Thats the definition of a dual carriageway. The number of lanes is irrelevant. Dual refers to the presence of two carriageways/roads, not two lanes.
I said that............ Isn't that what I said in the same sentence you just quoted? ?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I'm fully aware of that, but I still feel the OP's pain.
Perhaps the companies that hire these vans should do more to make people aware.
I was thinking perhaps drivers should make more effort to stay familiar with the highway code and the laws that govern the roads. All your base are belong to us.0 -
The nice easy mental image we were given on an SAC was that if you can roll a ball all the way across on tarmac, it's single carriageway...Rover_Driver wrote: »Even if the centre reservation is only grass, there is no difference and the national speed limit for cars is 70mph.0 -
Another total PITA on the now average speed camera A9. A lot of van drivers are aware that the system knows the class of vehicle and will issue tickets accordingly so it is now white van man that holds the traffic up instead of Tesco lorries :mad:0
-
Yeah, but holding traffic up by following the law isn't their fault; that's how fast they should always have been driving...0

Last week I was following a van pretty much all the way up from Perth. When he got off the A9 he was gone ! The Scottish government have been very cagey about the accident statistics since the introduction of the cameras on the "reducing accidents" ticket only really giving reduced average speed figures. IMO it is causing increased frustration and more risky overtaking.0
