You're right, it's out of order.

In the real world there are employees working HOURS of extra overtime for NO EXTRA PAY.

    Stop the pettiness!

Do you think lots of people being exploited makes it ok?

The people who voluntarily do extra overtime for no pay help create a culture where it becomes expected of others, and people are denied career opportunities because they don't give their employer free labour.

Now I think that's morally wrong, but that's maybe just because I'm not a rightwing piece of !!!!.

I make no assumptions about what you are but if you think expecting somebody to be in 5 minutes before a shift is exploitation...there are no words!

There are plenty of words, but if I use any of them at you I'll be banned from the site.

There is a difference between arriving early, to start work on time, as a pose to arriving early and starting work early (which getting on the shop floor 5 minutes before your shift starts would be!).

Unfortunately, while it's not pleasant, it's part of retail - which is why you aren't getting much sympathy from other retail employees.

You may well find that some of your colleagues have complained about this and as such get rota-ed to start (and therefore get paid) 15 mins earlier - even though you are both expected to start at the same time!
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Your immaturity is shining through. Come back in a few years when you've had some work experience, although if you take that attitude with you I'd be surprised if you could hold a job down for more than 2 weeks.

I've been in my current job for over 15 years, 'attitude' and all, which simply adds to the evidence that you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

You may think that but I didn't get to where I am today by having that type of attitude.

    Ah the eternal optomist....

But it's true. A company is not a sentient being. It does not care about you. Your managers will soon forget about you when you leave as we are ALL replaceable. There are jobs yes where the job is meaningful and helps people or society in some way. The vast number of jobs, especially low pay retail work, they do really not care about you.

Any employer can get rid of you quite easily and they would have no qualms and I have seen how badly people have been treated by employers.

Which is why I say, go to work, do the job you are paid to do as well as you can and go home.

But why should they? Why has society evolved to this and why do some people where it as a badge of honour? Life is short and I can guarantee on your death bed work will not matter....all those unpaid hours toiling away for someone else.
