Broken speedo MOT tomorrow
Comments

Prowla. 1. With the variations in peoples speed on the roads, most would apparently be just as accurate in their speed limit holding with an egg timer in place of their speedo. 2. Just beause a speedo isn't indicating roadspeed, doesn't meen the odometer isn't working.
I do take your point that there may be multiple reasons why the speedo has failed, but if it's because the signal isn't coming to the unit, then it'll affect the odo too.0 -

I'd they'd have told you to go book the repair in at reception and they'll do a free re-test when it's sorted0 -
How do you "Stick to speed limits" if you aint got a speedo (some pedant will say buy a cheap sat nav)
If you've had the car a while paid attention to the Tachometer and Speedometer before it failed you would be able to tell what speed you're doing, based on the rpm and gear you're in.All your base are belong to us.0 -

"Broken" means stuck at zero

Assuming a manual box, the relationship between road speed and engine revs is fixed for each gear. <number> mph per 1,000 rpm. Short of changing the ratios in the gearbox and/or final drive, that relationship will never change.0 -

You should be able to judge your speed by looking out of the windscreen. It's an amazing concept borne out of repetitition of 30 limits, 40 limits, 50 limits, all the way up to 70mph. Weird concept and should have made it into the Ripley's Bekieve IT Or Not Series!0 -
Umm, yes. Why would you not be able to?

Oh, please! How many people sit there, whilst driving, calculating their speed, revs and how many seconds it takes to pass trees at every speed on the speedometer? Don't be absurd.0 -

For goodness sake! There is no way that anyone can judge their speed to the last mile per hour.0 -
Maybe not to 1mph but it's reasonable to expect a driver to judge his speed within 10% +\- prosecution is another 2mph above that.
Is that too difficult for you?0
