Has anyone got any savvy ideas what to spend W vouchers on?

Muller's+6-pack Wotsits is a great solution (AvW) but I'm well stocked on these now.

My current aim is to get real food that is longlife or freezable. Chicken would be good but I wonder what the best deal is?

Firstly just had a quick glance at the Groupon and Living social deals for today

and I noticed that Hawstone Park is on offer again

Hawkstone Historic Park Follies: Family Entry from £15 (Up to 40% Off)

depending on when you want to go July or August and if you have 2 or 3 children.

This is a fabulous place esp if you have energetic children, take a picnic, might need a change of clothes if they get themselves muddy and sweaty :D

I agree mhoc, my DD, and grandchildren & I had a brilliant day out there last year when it was on offer for £9. Let me clarify, the grandchildren and I enjoyed ourselves, my DD moaned the whole way as she dislikes walking! She kept wanting to take the sign posted short cuts back to the beginning:rotfl: At first she wouldn't let me take the GC up the tower saying they wouldn't make it, 3 & 6 yrs. But of course they did and loved looking down from that great height. Take torches too for the caves & tunnel's.:)

    Morning, :)

But why is this a good thing? isn't it justifying helping yourself by helping other people? if you are that concerned then donate your profits to these charities??

I'm very uncomfortable with making money out of others misery :(

You....and others here think it ok to line your own pockets?
I got it as you DONATE.......donate your profits? I don't somehow think any of you will :(

yes we can all make someone happy by donating udis and toblerones, but we won't give anything of our own lives up :(

it's rubbish. that we all subscribe to.

I jumped out of a plane at 35,000 feet last week......but I didn't get a discount on anything and it's the 8th time I've did it. I've raised money for charity every time. and ill continue to do so without needing praise on here.

I did it because the place I work for needs funds and I got them.

Don't care how much I'm hated and called a racist :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Yes ....a racist because I had a joke with my Scottish friends :(I'd be willing to bet the person who reported me as racist isn't Scottish and has never had a Scottish friend .

we have a far superior sense of humour :D

enough ranting for one night :o some people really do need to get a life.

How can someone who is Scottish (through and through) be being racist against Scottish people

I do it so I don't have to eat from a food bank in the future!

Well I don't actually but I'm sure their are people who sadly do, or so they have spare money to do things with their kids. If people who haven't eaten in days maybe not washed for weeks and get given some free stuff we have been paid to get I'm sure they would be over the moon, I know I would be.

I'm sure the FB saga has been on here before. Jamie Oliver would be distraught at all the crisps going to the schools lately :D

Having said that if the projected cuts in your family income look like they are running into thousands per year then this is a different situation altogether and this is going to need a major re think of your budget.

First point is to know when the changes are going to take place so you have an end date to work towards.

And then going through the budget with a fine tooth comb

    - we had a bit of a reality check one year - youngest son was still at home and he stayed here while he did 3 years of college and 2 years of uni and we supported him during those years.

One year we lost the tax credit which was £80 a month from April and then in the September the child benefit which was something like £120 went (I still call it family allowance) so £200 had to be salvaged from the budget that year, it took a lot of tweeking - I think this was the biggest loss to the budget we had ever had in one year.

I think we have to re focus our aims - increasing the family budget might be impossible but we can take what we have and stretch it as far as it can go - money does not have much lycra in it but you can flatten the edges out a bit and make it go that bit further.

And the actual process of being more inventive with what you have can be a lot of fun, you have to get your head to stop thinking negatively about it .

You've hit the nail on the head there mhoc. I usually do see the fun side, I think it's the mixture of talking to my dh about money (he gets angry and upset and doesn't join in with my money-saving activities, though is glad I do them) and struggling to manage my time with a baby - that is to say I haven't quite got the hang of it yet :)

Vouchercrazy, I'm so sorry to hear of your work situation. If you've been there a long time, this will probably seem like a big step to take, but have you considered temping? There is always work available for people with any kind of financial background. If you can afford to take a couple of weeks without pay, hand your notice in and then spend some time pulling a decent CV together and getting it online. Also talk to all the small practices locally - they might want someone one or two days a week or at this time of year for a couple of weeks holiday cover. Good luck.

    Morning all :)

When u do these jumps, do you pay for them with your own money or out of the donations. I ask this as I will not sponsor people doing this since I found out this is usual procedure. OK, I can understand this but it is the fact the person has usually says `I`ve always wanted to jump out of a plane, I might as well do it for charity`, so they are doing something they have always wanted to do but someone else if paying for it.

By the way, does it matter where or why food banks get their donations, so long as it is legal.

Well done that you do things for charity. We all do in our own way.

I think everyone has the potential to give a little bit whether its their resources or their time or their energy- sadly most families are stretched enough as it is so it has to be one or the other usually, not always both.

    But every little bit counts.

However small the donation of time or the donation of resources eg something to the foodbank if every single family did donate something then it would make a vast difference to charities and the work done by them.

For food banks I assume that although they will always need extra helpers they would rather people regularly put items into the food collection baskets in stores to keep their stocks well supplied.

Even if you are really struggling its still possible to be able to find something to give - we always donated to charity shops and I was the main supplier of prizes for school raffles and one year I was a parent helper in class.

I didn't have the spare time to use - I had no family support or back up (and OH worked odd shifts so mostly it was just me in charge) , no child care unless I paid for it which we could not afford and anyway my gang were so horrible no one would babysit them :rotfl:

FC - I really don't get your apparent anger at people making donations to food banks of their spoils? Yes, it would be nice if they donated their time and effort as well but any donation surely is welcome - especially if they donate via Tesco who give an additional 30% to the food banks.

Maybe others don't have the time, energy or money to do more but feel they are doing their bit by at least donating something. Why isn't their mite as good as anyone else's? If the supermarkets pay for this so that it can be done by any one of us isn't any donation as good as any other?

I don't like to beat my own trumpet but in the past I've organised many, many events free of charge with all proceeds going to charity. It's taken a LOT of my time and effort but as I enjoyed organising it also gave me a lot of pleasure to do this. I no longer have the time, energy or health to keep repeating this so my bit now is also donating my glitch shops. Not very many glitch shops now because of the above problems but I feel at least it's something, rather than nothing.

I know many wouldn't feel happy organising big events or even jumping out of planes but if donating to foodbanks makes people feel like they are at least trying to do their bit then good on them!
