However, the Elite have the knowledge and sense of charity to do a little something about it and help the foodbanks and the homeless hostels.
Just think, a little bit of effort and we could do a 10 Udi, 10 Tob & 12 Muller A v W cc or hd, make a profit and give it all away.
On a different shop we could do a 10 Udi & 40 x Baxters (10 of each flavour) DeeDee snackpots, again make a profit A v T and give it all away.
And we could even do a Garnier shampoo shop A v M, make a profit and give it all away.
We can all do it and it won't cost us a bean. Let's all try, shall we?
What a great idea SFSB. I think you can tell by the number of thanks you've got that the majority agree with you. Not all of us need to do a grand gesture to help others. Some of us just do it in our own quiet way, which can be just as effective. Each to their own.0 -

My take on university education:
It is hard that students have to take on massive debt to fund their time at university. Remember they only pay back when they are earning over £21,000 and whatever the size of the debt they pay back the same amount. So today's budget announcement that all grants would go means that they will have the same amount of money to live off as a student but that it will all be a loan not a grant. (As previously some of the total loan entitlement was given as a grant to low income families.) So whether the total loan was around 20k (pre-2012) or 40k (post 2012) they still pay 9% of their earnings above 21k. Even if some parents were able to afford to help their offspring out so they took a loan only for the fees, they still pay the 9% of earnings above 21k.
No or low earnings means no payback, the debt remains until eventually getting written off.
What is a real struggle for students is that the loan (or loan + grant) isn't enough to pay rent and bills and food and transport etc. That is the real problem, that without a part time job and help from family, a student doesn't have enough money to survive at university. This is what needs to be addressed, that the poorest families get enough support that students can actually go to university. That the loans are enough to support a student at uni.
For some students I think it will mean that the only uni places they will be able to apply for will be local unis so they can still live at home - fine for people living in cities but not for anyone living rural.
This reduces the options - if the course you want to do is not done at your local uni or you don't get the place you want at the uni closest to you then you don't do uni.
It also puts added stress on families - financially supporting through 3 or 4 years of uni - and emotionally - quite often children have out grown their home life by this age and need to be living independently.“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
They say things come in 3's and how right that is as after having to have a new boiler fitted which then led to me having to have the pump replaced .Now my electric powershower has packed up:eek: so plumber calling later to check it out and it's times like this when unexpected expense crops up that I really appreciate the fact that Nannylala can be thrifty thanks to the help of the Elite:A0

I agree, but the point i was making was nothing has changed as regards the total amount of the loan (or loan+grant) other than the grant will disappear and all be a loan. So the total amount available to the student remains unchanged. This situation has been going on for a few years.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Good morning all on this beautiful sunny mornvouchercrazy wrote: »Good evening everyone
I need some Elite advice regarding a work situation, I have spoken to ACAS and they have advised me to take my boss to court , but I do not want to go down that route as I know my boss is between a rock and a hard place. His wife and step daughter both suffer from depression and are both on the same medication
We work in the accountancy industry, me 30 odd years my boss over 40 years, my boss took on his step daughter because she could not find any other work, for the last four years ,we have tried teaching her but she plays on her depression , believe me she is not daft or uneducated, it has now gotten to a point where I am totally running the practice on my own, while I see each day his step daughter totally taking the Mick out of my boss and her mother, I have brought this to the attention of my boss but he has been told by his step daughter and her mother it is a conflict of personalities, which it is not at all, my boss has threatened me that if we do not get along then he will close the business and I will be out of a job but he still wants me to teach his step daughter, this is now effecting my health as I am so stressed and my hair is falling out , I have shorten the situation because if I write everything that has been going on we will still here in a couple of months My oh has said look for another job but when you get to my age jobs are few and far between I need help but do not know where turn
Sorry for bring the thread down
It really does sound like your boss is in a very hard place, and it sounds like you would be justified in going to the doctors and getting signed off for stress. I personally would do this.
In the meantime, while you are off, have a sniff around for other jobs.
Just one other consideration, how about going self-employed? What you could also do while off sick is have a sniff around and find out what local businesses are looking to change accountant. You could dictate your own working hours, take on customers that you like and ignore ones that you don't.
It is hard at first, but the rewards make it worth it. We have had our own business for about 25 years, we have a lot of customers that will go nowhere else and have been with us for 20+ years. Build up a good customer base and the customers talk to other people who also come to you etc etc.
Whatever you decide it is clear you cannot continue as you are. You do need to make notes of what goes on, especially this threat to close the business. Your boss is clearly fed up with it all too, and somehow you need to make it provably down to his step-daughter. If you want to stay there you need to turn it around.
Whatever you do, good luck. And please don't feel you can't have a good moan on this thread, sometimes it is the only place you can turnWhat is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

how are we all today?
SFSB i'd gladly help with donations once i'm up to speed with what's free/cheapi did donate 4 tins of rice pudding last week at t's & always donate something if they are collecting in there when i'm doing my shopping.
DS2 dislocated his knee again a few weeks ago & is in a cast up to the top of his leg bless himit's been horrible for him especially in this heat & still having to go to school on crutches. we've got a hospital appointment this morning & i think they are going to put a range motion brace on him where he can bend his knee up to 30 degrees for a week & then build up the degrees gradually with intensive physio. what a great summer he's going to have poor boy!
