I wondered the same, David. If im too young for chinos, too unjeremy kyle for trackies, and too hot for jeans, what do the chino haters wear?
:TChinos  i hope you took them back? If my wife bought me a pair of chinos, i would set fire to them!
These posters obviously don't think chinos are appropriate attire for a wannabe smart 30 something so maybe they could offer suggestions for an alternative.....Stevie_Palimo wrote: »Was thinking that to and then thought OP must be around 50-60,
Mistaken again as he is only 31 and wearing these would in my view make you look nearer to my initial thought of age.0 -
I took the chinos out for a test run yesterday, wore the light pair with some brown shoes, I was pleasantly surprised by some nice comments I received. The girls in the bank said I looked great and asked where I was off to!!0

Well I am nearly 40 and must say that I have never entertained the thought of wearing these and did not like them the first time they came into fashion, I see my elderly neighbour and lots of older people in these and would quite frankly put them down to the elderly or people with no taste. ( My preference and I am allowed this before anyone jumps on my post )
For me I wear suits most of the time due to meeting clients and potential new ones but in my downtime depending on where I am that is then I may wear things like lightweight jeans, Smart trousers but no chinos, Shorts if it is hot enough, And for lazing about at home tracksuit bottoms.
I still partner anything I wear with a smart/casual top and polo neck shirts I think are fine but 9 times out of 10 I am in a normal shirt.0 -
I'm in my 40's and I wouldn't be seen dead in Chino's or smart casual polo shirts. This is what happens when men let women dress them. They end up wearing the most awful clothing ever designed.0

PLEASE can one of the fashionistas explain, perhaps with links, the difference between 'smart' trousers which are not suit bottoms and Chinos?
Is it possible to get non-Chino 'smart' trousers in cotton, out of interest?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

What do you wear?0 -
Normally Levi 501's, Converse and a surfer/skater t-shirt. I really like my Soul Revolver 'Life on Mars' leather jacket too. If visiting a client I have to suit up, but I only ever wear my suits for client visits, funerals etc.
If it's hot I wear cargo shorts and a t-shirt with sandal/flip-flops (no socks because I'm not an idiot).
I don't do smart casual as it's the most horrific look ever. I still like my grungy/rock style.0 -

Just smart trousers and not suit ones.

You must be quite a youthful looking 40something, then? Because some of that would look ridiculous on the average bloke of your age. Not the cargo shorts, like them, nor the leather jacket either. Those are timeless and if you get the right one you can wear it for decades. But, assuming you know what suits you and you do look good in the surfer/skater t-shirts, you're a rare enough breed.0
