Summer attire

What do you think is good, smart summer attire for men?
As the weather has got warmer I mentioned to my wife that my jeans were feeling a bit too warm, im not really a short wearing type of person and the only other things i own are a couple of track suit bottoms that I wear if im doing something grubby in the garden.
The wife, on her routine trip to Primark picked me up a couple of pairs of light coloured chinos and polo shirts. I am grateful for the thought but I feel as though I look ready for the golf course.
I look at people out and about where I am and it is mostly shorts and no tops or grey tracksuits, it isnt the most affluent area.
What can you guys recommend??

What about longer shorts or 3/4 length trousers? Or are you just not really keen on any kind of shorts?
My husband is not overly keen on the 3/4 trousers, he does wear shorts most of the time, but longer ones just slightly above the knee.
I think chinos look really smart and are nice and cool and comfortable. If you don't like them with a polo shirt, then what about an ordinary t-shirt or a linen shirt?0 -
The problems i have with shorts are that as a child I had tight skin on my shins (not sure why) and it kept splitting so I have scar tissue and patchy leg hair which looks most odd.
The chinos are really smart I do like them, ones like the light beige and the others light grey, The polo shirts are nice, I like them also, 3 colours, white, purple and grey0 -
My husband has patchy leg hair there too! He reckons it's from wearing shin pads when he played a lot of football? But that's just his theory, who knows? He's abit conscious of that too and doesn't wear shorts much outside (don't know if it's just because of that?) but wears them all the time indoors (works from home).
Personally, I think it looks fine, and not that noticeable at all, and I'm sure yours probably isn't either, but I understand why you might feel uncomfortable.
Another option is Combat style trousers in a dark colour look smart/casual and are nice and lightweight for summer.0 -
I think 3/4 length shorts on some no-so-tall men make them look very strange, long bodies and short legs, especially if they wear them with trainers and football shirts worn outside the trousers.
I think a dressy pair of tailored shorts - around knee level - with a nice short sleeved shirt and some canvas shoes, maybe Vans or similar, look very smart.
If you don't want shorts or crops, I think there's nothing wrong with chinos. OH doesn't wear polo shirts or T-shirts, he likes good quality shirts.0 -
If you like them, wear them. There's nothing wrong with being smart, you don't have to drag yourself down to the levels you see around you if you don't want to.
Nobody else, apart from maybe your wife, cares what you are wearing when you're minding your own business from day to day. There's all sorts on display out there. |I saw a woman with bum cleavage hanging out of her jeans the other day. Not a pretty sight.Make £2026 in 2026

I think knee shorts look much better than 3/4 length trousers, but if you don't want to show your shins both are out anyway. That leaves us with loose chinos I guess. Unless you want to go for a sarong David Beckham style...0

Also top half tucked in or out?
Im thinking to go and pick out a few shirts next time I get to some shops!!0 -

Out IMO, but people always disagree on this one! Whatever feels more comfortable I guess. For smart, tucked in, for casual out.0 -
